  1. I've put the finishing touches on a side project - Dockerized ComicRack [^1].

ComicRack is abandonware for managing your digital comic library (CBRs/CBZs) with several robust scripts and plugins. Unfortunately, development ceased without it ever getting ported to something other than dotnet45 (and the source has also been lost to time).

By dockerizing the app with KasmVNC, I can run it headless while still maintaining the organizing/scraping capabiltiies.

    Check it out!

  2. Going through my google books and populating my #BookWyrm profile (bookwyrm.social/user/pezhore).

I never picked up on the #goodreads trend - I tend not to read a ton (until I find a series that I can sink my teeth into). I should probably also move away from using #GooglePlayBooks as my primary epub storage/reader.

    Any good #FOSS alternatives? (I primarily read on a Samsung tablet/Boox e-reader).

  3. @pezhore

I had deployed #FreeIPA before briefly but recently I chose #GLauth which is lighter than both FreeIPA and #OpenLDAP. I'll probably revisit it at some point and I'll be sure to check out the #ansible roles for it, but for now #GLauth is sitting in fine.

I like that GLauth can be configured by a singular text file which I can easily version in Git. I'll have to see if there are ansible roles for adding GLauth user entires. I will also be using #Keycloak for my first test.

As for running a three-node-cluster yeah I think you'll be happy with it. I'm using #Terraform with the #Proxmox provider. You need to set up an API key and then the template OS. The easiest way is to use a Cloud image that has cloud-init capabilities so you can seed users/keys. That way your later #Ansible playbooks can hook in easily. You can probably also find a strictly Ansible way to deploy to Proxmox on Ansible Galaxy, but I like using Terraform where it fits best -- provisioning.

Good point about secret management, I'll be using a combination of tools but HC #Vault will be among them.

What are your learning goals with your lab and what do you tend to do with yours?

  4. Our Star Trek Christmas tree is coming along nicely!

I should be getting the final ornaments in the next week or so - a light up/sound Borg Cube and a DS9.

  5. Has anyone bought a new car recently - how does that whole, "Contact every dealership in your area and ask for their best price" actually work (if it does work)?

With RTO in full force, my family can't get buy with one vehicle anymore. We have an idea for make/model but are flexible on trim/color/options.

  6. I picked up a second set of Yamaha HP-2 orthodynamic headphones from the ebay... interestingly, this new set has circular holes in the driver vs my older (and I guess less common) square holes.

Unfortunately, while taking the new set apart for cleaning/felt replacement, I discovered the driver has a gnarly crack down the middle. I guess I won't be able to give them a true comparison listen after all. :(

  10. Looks like the Home Assistant Voice Assistant preview is working - one step closer to de-Googling my home.

I do need to look at either

    1) Migrating everything off my hubitat to home assistant
    2) Figure out how to get home assistant to control switches in hubitat

If anyone has experience with the latter, let me know.

  11. Anyone have suggestions for homelab syslog aggregation?

I don't really want to set up a full ELK stack - so maybe graylog2?

I'm looking to have my AP/router dump logs someplace centralized.

  16. Coffee and Headphones, a decent way to start my day.

That's a heavily modified pair of Grado SR80e headphones, with Zebra wood cans, aluminum blocks/steel frame, and leather headband.

  20. Okay #homelabber folks. I'm running ethernet to my office and I can either have one or two drops at the wall.

My Orbi AP will be moving upstairs to the office, sharing space with my gaming PC, work laptop, and various tinkering projects/raspberry pis.

The AP needs multiple VLANs for the various SSIDs, while the computer systems are typically on one VLAN.

There's no shortage of port density on my core switch, and currently everything is running CAT6/1 Gbps (aside from my Ceph cluster which is backed by SFP+ 10Gbps).

Regardless of either option, I'll be digging out a managed 5 port switch for use upstairs.

  21. So question for home owners (especially first time home owners) - did your credit score take a hit? How long did it take to recover?

We purchased back in August, and aside from a little blip, I'm back up into the 800s.

  22. Anyone have experience with dry wells? Our one downspout is dumping a ton of water into soggy ground, and about 10ft away, our sump pump outputs water to another soggy section. I'm debating putting in a dry well for both, but have zero clue if that's a Bad Idea TM.
