Within the first few days that I was really using #Mastodon, I was thinking that a #fediverse server and clients that supported #GPS traces well could make a lot of the #hiking posts usable for more than oohing and aahing.
I present rough draft 0.1 of #Pathodon. Is this something that others would like? Is something like this already in the works? Who else would work on this with me?

@b0rk's threads about debuggers made me nostalgic for #mdb on Solaris and illumos. Currently I'm working on #SPDK, which seems to be only supported on Linux and #FreeBSD . Ever so hopeful, I tried:
[mgerdts@freebsd ~/spdk]$ mdb ./test/unit/lib/bdev/bdev.c/bdev_ut
mdb: no target ctor: No error: 0😦
That's probably a pretty big hint that there is much #yakShaving to do to get the to level of functionality I'd want. Prolly better to write some gdb commands in python.

For some reason this rock in Utah made me think about some guy in Nebraska.

@rationaldoge after a bit of searching I found a map in a screen grab of what I’m sure was a very exciting 5 hour meeting of government officials.
It was much easier to find in this video than I expected. There was a little ask AI button that answered the question “At what point is devils lake discussed?” to which it replied “The discussion about Devil's Lake State Park begins at (1:27:20).”

Happy #FungusFriday to all who celebrate. I found this #fairyRing in the woods along the #IceAgeTrail this morning. Quite a surprise.

@Jimijamflimflam I had never seen these until about three years ago. Since then I’ve seen one or two each year. Until last weekend. I’ve seen at least several dozen of them while hiking along the #IceAgeTrail in Indian Lake County Park and the Lodi Marsh segment.

I think the Google #streetView camera was mounted on the car backwards when it went through #Belleville #Wisconsin. I was first tipped off when clicking on the forward arrow took me backwards.

Related, what’s going on in that area that there’s a steady plume of steam or smoke? I was on the #IceAgeTrail near here this morning and was put off by apparent pollution spewing from near here.

Today I found the Table Bluff segment of the Ice Age Trail, just a few minutes from home. What a wonderful trail.

I’ve paid for #AllTrails every year for years, recently $36. I’ve submitted trail reviews and submitted new trails that became popular.
Several of the features that I’ve used are no longer available unless I pay more than 2x what my current subscription costs. Every time they prod me to upgrade I’m reminded that I’m unhappy with them. And I’m annoyed that I have to deal with this frequent ad in an app I pay for.
After turning off auto renew, a 30% off code came in email. Pffft. Try $36.

How tempting is this? No bids yet, $25 minimum. Must pick up near Madison WI.

I think I may need some #CuteWinterBoots on #Jan29.

@Pollinators @eabolden in nearby #DaneCounty #cranes are commonly seen. This couple was particularly interested in pecking at my car tires in #Middleton #Wisconsin in September of 2021.

Is the unemployment rate in #Springfield high? Or was there an influx of #Hatian people due to there being a bunch of jobs there that couldn’t be filled with the extant population?
If the influx of people just satisfies employment demand, how is it that no one is pointing the blame at city and regional planning for failing to scale investments in housing, schools, and infrastructure with employment capacity?
Seems they asked for the growth. https://www.springfieldtwp.org/JEDZ

While last week's #OxideAndFriends was about #CockroachDB's license change, a very large part of it was @dap and @bcantrill discussing the pain that can be felt by choosing software based on community sentiment rather than thorough testing. The point is driven home in a discussion of using #Postgres beyond its design limits. This is mostly in the first half of the episode.

@thenextsummit while I fully agree that a phone should not be the only navigation device you have on lightly traveled trails, the article loses credibility by suggesting that a map and compass or any GPS device is better than a phone. I download maps to my phone (typically #AllTrails and #OrganicMaps) and go into airplane mode when I disconnect the charging cable. My iPhone screen is much brighter than my old Garmin and the apps provide much better functionality. Map and compass for backup.

It sure would be nice if #LizCheney would find a way to make #OathAndHonor available as a podcast for free. It would seem to be a great way to further the reach of her #NeverTrump agenda.

Today I got paper mail alerting me of a service that would alert me of property fraud involving my home. The envelope and letter look to be from #DaneCounty #Wisconsin. Remembering that the first Nigerian Prince scam I saw came by postal mail, I decided to try to verify this information by looking at my county's .gov site.

@oxidecomputer when is the #OxideAndFriends episode on crucible happening?

Good news! I don’t have any aspen or willow trees, which are favorite foods of spongy moths.
Bad news! I have oak, birch, crabapple, tamarack, and linden trees. These are also favorite foods of spongy moths.

It’s a shame that all #Telo trucks come with a huge dent on each side. They should really figure out what is causing that. 😉
I hope that something like this forces change in pickup the market.
