"The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth"
More: there's nothing more anti-LGBT than not backing housing starts.
Despite only making up 5% of the overall population of LGBT, 40% of unhoused youths identify as LGBT.

This post was a right-wing dog whistle (albeit, there isn't much of a right wing audience on this platform, unfortunately).

I know someone that proposed that chat interfaces are a terrible metaphor for LLMs.
I want to agree.
Maybe I lack the imagination, but I can't think of anything else.
That friend that I know also proposed that a "journal is a better metaphor".
Honestly, I'm intrigued.
I'd love to explore this one day.

What differentiates chatbots from ChatGPT and Claude?
- ability to have sub thread to explore various possible different responses
- ability to start entirely separate threadsFor the average person (or at least ones I have met), such feature immediately collapses the illusion of talking to something sentient.

Let me make this fucking clear: I love all incarnation of AI that we had.
I love well-implemented software that leverages tools and techniques that power said "AI". Think ChatGPT or Claude.
I just despise the AI bros.

Given today's Figma earnings call, I was right.
30 ROI on a month-long long position.
That's $1400 return.
And I have a bunch of calls that I bought, that are very close to at-the-money.
All the AI hype bros have been shorted this stock to a squeeze.

When Pierre Poilievre said that Mark Carney is badly educated on economics, sure, I don't think Poilievre should be the one saying this, but I still held back from hopping on the dogpiling bandwagon of laughing at Poilievre.
To quote Nassim Taleb on this "I don't care if we have 15 PhDs or 500 PhDs", in reference to people criticizing Taleb of unhedged risk moments that lead up to the 2008 recession, many of them claiming "these PhDs disagree with Mr. Taleb".

Canada needs more talented technical people who think from first principles.
My biggest concern is, no matter how much tech use feels liberating, the rollouts are far from it.
Something that will 100% not be liberating: technical rollouts mandating mobile phone use. Tech is supposed to make things more convenient (such as faster database lookups). It shouldn't lock people into forcing them to get a mobile phone that mandates the creation of an account with either Apple or Google.

Human beings have historically been regulating what we put on our ledgers for a very long time.
But suddenly, we start talking about adding regulations for stablecoins, and everyone (on the left) start losing their minds!

(Re-posting, but different, because I just found out today that my server supports quote-boosting.)
I wrote this parable to criticize Canada's immigration situation.
During heightened immigration, whenever I'd raise concerns that we're bringing in too many people without offering the proper support structures, I'd get accused of being a xenophobe.
Fast forward to a housing crisis, and increased youth unemployment rate, now people have unfortunately become jaded against immigrants, even though newcomers do not deserve the hate.
That, and the government has now slammed on the breaks on immigration.
This cut in immigration numbers is bad.

I should also note that #Graze is a thing that exists and people should use it because it simplifies browsing other instances exactly as you described by making your Web Browser effectively act as your front-end. -

I think we should call prompt engineers „LLM wizards“. Their job is to discover the spell incantations that generate the magic that is requested.
I think they already have their books of spells. It all lines up perfectly. E.g. you have to believe in them to see their benefits. Their magic also requires massive amounts of magic energy (electricity).

I tried using #mermaidDiagrams to create and edit simple project plans e.g. for proposals. I found the experience mostly frustrating because the feature set had unexpected holes. The ide is great.

@manlycoffee Agreed. You mention Instagram, but their sister site #Threads is a prime candidate to become that #GlobalTownHall, again wholly owned by the #Zuckerverse.
Part of the thrill of talking on pre-Elon Twitter was the chance that your words could have an impact. In here it feels like shouting down a (very nice) bottomless hole. -
@linus @manlycoffee yeah, there's a lot of silly dogmatism here
What I'd *really* love to see is a #Web3 hosted #ActivityPub instance; maybe on #internetComputer maybe #fleekNetwork
That'd make people's hair catch fire! 😈

"If you want to be good at what you do, you have to consider being good with people as one of the skills that's absolutely essential. Because no matter what field you're in, if you're inept in dealing with your employees, with your boss, etc., you're not gonna get very far."
Robert Greene #socialintelligence #emotionalintelligence #leadership #motivationalquoteThis is also a perfect video response to people who excuse social ineptitude or hide behind their "smarts" when really they need to learn empathy and caring for others at work i.e. the nerds that @manlycoffee like to rant about #designbetter #beagoodhuman #personaldevelopment

So, I've been playing around with a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition for a bit.
Overall, I feel almost right at home with the X1 Carbon.
I wished I could highlight all the good things, about it, but frankly, it's mostly neck-in-neck with the 14-inch M4 Pro MacBook Pro.
That said, I may as well list out things that either laptops have missing.
What X1 Carbon doesn't have.
- Long battery life
- HDR display
- Smudge-resistant exterior
- Ability to dev for the Apple ecosystem
- Good speakersThings that the MacBook doesn't have:
- Touch screen
- Screen real estate at the top (it's been replaced by a notch)
- Insanely lightweight (X1 Carbon is less than a kilogram in weight)
- screen folds out 180 degrees#ThinkPad #Lenovo #LenovoThinkPad #X1Carbon #ThinkPadX1Carbon #X1

I keep hearing that reddit.com/r/canada is a right-wing haven.
I'm not seeing it, based on this thread about Canada rescinding the Digital Services Tax (DST).
The DST is absolutely stupid, and should have never been enacted.
We hate Americans for instituting a tariff?
Canadians are not innocent, and it's not OK. It's just another pot calling the kettle black.
Previously, I have complained about leftists doing stupid stuff, but when someone makes an intelligent comment about why leftists are not actually stupid, I immediately back down.
But this, I'm definitely digging my heels on.
It's a hill I'm willing to die on.

Forgot to share this, but I thought I'd share.
I had some delicious biryani at Bahubali Biryani House, at the South Western corner of Scott Road and Nordel Way, at the Kennedy Heights Shopping Centre, South, in Delta, BC.
It was delicious.
If you're looking for something around the area, I highly recommend.

I showed up to a booth.
Saw their product.
Wanted to be nice.
Asked them "what's your exit strategy?"
I probably sounded more mean, lmao.

The Parliament of Estonia is orders of magnitude smarter than whoever is in the Parliament of Canada (including Mark Carney).
"Europe should regulate Big Tech instead of banning kids from social media, Estonia says"
-
The liberal party has adopted a motion to ban social media use for anyone under the age of 16.
Perhaps it is a good idea.
I don't know. Perhaps not, due to privacy concerns.
But personally, I'd push for first banning infinity-scrolling video functionality that has been plaguing social media, not just TikTok, but YouTube (via YouTube Shorts), Instagram (via Reels), Facebook (also called Reels), X (formerly known as Twitter has full-screen video scrolling down to another arbitrary video), Snapchat (gotta make money somehow; vanishing messages aren't gonna keep the lights on), Reddit (which has full screen video scroll to more videos).
