I just released version 1.10.1 of the #TLP #Linux #powersaving tool. It fixes a charge threshold issue on Lenovo laptops (non-ThinkPad and ThinkBooks) and the start of tlp.service on Fedora.

Following a successful beta phase, version 1.10.0 of the #TLP #Linux #powersaving tool has been completed and published today.
You can now choose the profile to use for automatic switching. For example, you may set it to balanced on AC and power-saving on battery power.
Support for power profiles and frequency limits on Intel Xe/Arc GPUs has been added, charge thresholds work with newer kernels and additional hardware.

I would like to hear your opinion on whether I should establish a new #TLP config default:
RESTORE_THRESHOLDS_ON_BAT=1
This would mean that the charge thresholds are reset to their configured values every time the power supply is disconnected. For example, if you previously removed them using tlp fullcharge in order to fully charge the battery for longer mobile operation.
Would this be useful for your use cases? Currently, you have to configure this explicitly.

Version 1.9.1 of the #TLP #Linux #powersaving tool was released. It consists mainly of security fixes for #tlp-pd. For details, please refer to the publication by the #openSUSE Security Team.

I'd like to hear your opinion on #TLP auto-switching.
Since release 1.9, #TLP has three #powerprofiles: performance (automatically on AC power), balanced (automatically on battery power), and power-saver (only manually by the user).
Should there be an adjustable preference that allows for something other than the fixed assignment to the power source? What are your use cases?

I have just released version 1.9.0 of the #TLP #Linux #powersaving tool.
Enjoy the brand new #tlp-pd (TLP Profiles Daemon) for easy profile switching with a mouse click!
tlp-pd replaces #power-profiles-daemon by implementing the same D-Bus API that major Linux desktop environments like GNOME, KDE and Cinnamon already use.

#TLP 1.9.0-beta.1 story part 2:
How do you prefer profile shifting, automatic or manual? As before, you can let TLP do the work.
Configuring TLP_AUTO_SWITCH=2 (the default) means that TLP automatically switches to performance profile every time the charger is connected, and to balanced when it is disconnected. If manually switched to power-saver, this is retained when the power source changes.

I have just released version 1.9.0-beta.1 of the #TLP #Linux #powersaving tool.
The key innovation in this release is the new Profiles Daemon. #tlp-pd enables you to conveniently switch between performance (AC), balanced (BAT) and power-saving (SAV) settings profiles from your Linux desktop environment and replaces #power-profiles-daemon.
Please take part in the beta test. I look forward to seeing your results.

One week after the TLP 1.8.0 release there are already official distribution packages: Arch Linux, Debian 12 backports, 13 and unstable, as well as Fedora Rawhide and Ubuntu 25.04. The remaining Ubuntu versions are covered by the TLP PPA, Fedora 40/41 by the tlp-updates Repo. See Repology for even more.

After the successful beta test, TLP 1.8.0 is finished.
Battery care is at the forefront of this new release, with charge thresholds and recalibrate/discharge for #Chromebooks and #Framework laptops, and charge thresholds for #Dell laptops. See the release notes and the full changelog for details.

TLP 1.8.0 Beta 1 is now available and I would be grateful for your help with testing.
Of particular interest: for the first time, charge thresholds are supported for #Dell laptops as well as #Chromebooks and #Framework laptops. The latter two can also recalibrate the battery.

The beta test was a success, and I’m proud to announce the final release of TLP 1.7.
Enjoy charge threshold support for Apple Silicon Macbooks and MSI laptops, as well as laptop screen power saving with AMD’s Adaptive Backlight Modulation. Plus, you'll get a whole lot more features and bug fixes.

I'd absolutely love to find more testers, especially for the new features of TLP 1.7 beta 1. I'm thinking of Apple silicon MacBooks, MSI laptops (charge thresholds) and laptops with AMD CPU/GPU (display panel power savings).
If something is holding you back, let me know.

TLP code for charge thresholds on Macbooks improved once more. I'm still looking for a volunteer who has an Apple Silicon Macbook running #AsahiLinux and wants to test charge thresholds.

The hwdb approach is interesting. However, so far it implements only threshold recommendations. Unfortunately, not all laptops/vendors support the full 0..100 range and not all have start *and* stop thresholds.
