Longtermism (L) is a continuation of effective altruism: It assumes that humanity will succeed in colonizing the entire universe or creating virtual worlds that would then contain unimaginable numbers of posthumans. Under these assumptions, it would create much more total "value" in the universe if today's limited resources would be spent to the benefit of these future posthumans that will only be born in billions or even trillions of years from now, than to the benefit of the humans living today. Believers claim to aim to positively affect the greatest number of people possible. In this belief system, most people who could exist, will exist in the far, far future. Believers argue that humanity should stop focusing on currently living people and their contemporary problems, unless it would influence the distant future, because this approach is a suboptimal use of resources on the mission to maximize total value. Humanity should instead focus on what would benefit the population in the far, far future, which adds more total value to the universe due to the unimaginably larger number of people in the future population. This suspiciously somehow always seems to coincide with what benefits billionaires today.
Representatives of each toxic ideology have been platformed on the #LexFridman podcast. From Ray Kurzweil to Nick Bostrom to Ben Goertzel to Eliezer Yudkowsky to William MacAskill to Elon Musk.
I've watched colleages fall victim to these toxic ideologies because they didn't understand them. They naively and cluelessly thought of Lex Fridman as a role model and an intelligent, disciplined bigger brother who is good at playing guitar and martial arts. They'd thought the platformed guests were just random people with interesting ideas, rather than a concerted effort to spread these toxic ideologies among young (and not so young) men.
And I haven't even mentioned effective accelerationism or figures like Guillaume Verdon or Marc Andreessen yet. They want to maximize the likelihood of the realization of AGI (see singularitarianism) by turning the knobs of capitalism to eleven. And everyone should know this means fascism.

> I will definitely read your post and I will form my opinion about him.
Thank you.
> Have a good day.
Thank you.
> Surely I published that not to promote any of these terrible things you mentioned, but because I found the story about undiscovered tribes and huge anacondas interesting.
I get that and I believe you, and three years after my personal breaking point where I finally couldn't but accept who Lex Fridman truly is, I still struggle with that point. I watched the first episode with Rosolie and found it super interesting, and would like to see more if only I wouldn't be supporting Fridman that way, so I get you.
Please read this article to know what I mean and learn where I come from:
https://www.businessinsider.com/lex-fridman-podcast-anti-woke-elon-musk-aiI love everything science and up until three years ago, I watched almost every episode. After I could no longer justify how Lex can remain friends with Musk, even in 2023, and even become friends with Mark Zuckerberg—I couldn't give Lex the benefit of the doubt anymore—I struggled and was in denial for a while. For years, I had watched almost all of his episodes, so it felt somewhat like part of my identity … that I now needed to let go off, when I finally accepted that Lex is playing us for fools with his both-sideism.
Analogy: When I learn that my favorite bar is owned by a Hell's Angel, I won't go there anymore, not even for a public viewing of the soccer world championship. Not even when that bar has the biggest TVs and best beer in town. Because going there would legitimize that bar. That's how I see it. Same with random interesting episodes from a podcast that shouldn't be legitimized.

@pawelgrzybek Hi Paweł, I discovered you through the #neovim hashtag and enjoy your Neovim tips. I also enjoy your keyboard-related content as I use a ZSA Moonlander myself.
But I wish you would take this following post of mine to heart (and all my other posts I tagged with #LexFridman).
Mentioned post: https://hachyderm.io/@davidculley/115892790934745772
All tagged posts: https://hachyderm.io/@davidculley/tagged/LexFridman
I wrote them with my ex-coworkers in mind who are still big fans of Fridman, like I was up until three years ago. I ended contact with them because I won't be friends with people who align their thinking with a friend of Musk, Trump's daughter, Rogan, and other fascist figures. Even if that friend of fascist figures mixes interesting episodes like those with Rosolie in-between his platforming of fascists like Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, Donald Trump, JFK Jr., Balaji Srinivasan, Jordan Peterson, and many more. Lex willingly and intentionally contributed to get Trump elected.
Of course I can't command you what to do, but I will unfollow you if I keep seeing my fascism-legitimizing ex-coworkers in you. Your neovim tips aren't important enough to me that I couldn't do without them, as good as they are.
P.S. I write this because I enjoy your content and share your interests and would like to avoid unfollowing you. If I thought you were a fascist and promoted fascism intentionally, I would've just blocked you instead of trying to convince you to see what I see.

The disgusting billionaire Bill Ackman donated $10,000 to the GoFundMe campaign for the fascist murderer of Renee Good.
Side note: GoFundMe violates its own rules by tolerating that campaign in the first place.
Ackman is the racist bully who pressured Harvard's first female black president into losing her position, by campaigning against diversity and inclusion. What a dick.
His wife is Neri Oxman, employed at MIT. Both are very good friends of Lex Fridman. Both were already on Lex's podcast. Multiple times even in Neri's case.
Ackman was on mainly to bitch and whine about his racist worldview, being the pathetic loser that he is. Oxman talked much about biology and science.
This is what you legitimate if you watch or listen to the #LexFridman podcast. Even if you say, "I skip all the politicial episodes and those episodes where he invites obvious right-wingers such as Trump. I watch only the episodes with scientists."
First: Oxman is an example where a guest who's seemingly "just a scientist" is in reality not that … but more.
Second: Still, you legitimize a podcast that also invites those other guest.
Stop idolizing Lex Fridman if you still do. Stop watching his interviews, alltogether, if you still do. He can say he's neither right nor left but forms his opinion on a case-by-case basis as often as he likes, but it's obvious to anyone who pays attention where Lex Fridman stands politically and morally. Distance yourself.

If you still listen to the podcast of any of Elon Musk's friends, then you are no friend of mine.
That includes the podcasts of:
- #LexFridman
- #JoeRogan
- #ShaneParrish
- #NavalRavikantElon Musk is a disgusting murderer and nazi and abuser who is fine with pedophelia and enables child pornography.
All mentioned people are friends with him or support him. Some do it more openly, others mix interviews with scientists and apparent experts on interesting topics into their podcast and try to balance out their support of right-wing extremism. It makes no difference.
If you still listen to anyone's of these people's podcasts, I want nothing to do with you. You are listening to your own enemy and don't even realize it.
