Since Calagator was first created circa 2009, it and Kolagator have maintained jQuery as a dependancy.
It's 2026 and probably well time to move on from jQuery.. but to what? We dont need much javascript and these days there are options for full frameworks as well as very light weight approaches.
New discussion to consider where we might go if we attempted to deprecate jQuery from the project.

This is exciting, a community member, Oscar has just dropped that they are working on upgrading Koalagator from Rails 7.0 to the latest Rails 8 release.
PR for 7.1.x to 7.2.2.x just landed.

Other contributions welcome, have a look at our issues and drop us a line if you'd like to get involved.

@goblin hey we can add images to #koalagator events, just wanting to have more discussion on how this might work. Join in the discussion here: https://github.com/koalagator/koalagator/discussions/59

@residentCodeGuy you asked me recently what feature would be helpful for you to help me with #Koalagator calendar platform.
Well, I've got one that would massivley help. We have a browser extension (firefox/chrom) where you can visit an event ticketing site and click our browser button and it copies the event into the koalagator instance.
Fb have obstificated their webpage making it very hard to read, but we've now realised we could read the ical for the event that they provide.
Would love u to look at adding fb event support to our browser extension, its the most requested feature.

Tip: Install the excellent cli "web-ext" tool from firefox which will give you live code reloading while you muck around w the browser extension (https://github.com/mozilla/web-ext)

A few weeks ago I was asking around for an invite to #FOSStodon for our #Koalagator calendar FOSS project only to have folks quickly tell me that drama was afoot.
Sounds like things have settled down https://hub.fosstodon.org/fosstodon-community-statement AND that the project has recommitted to being an inclusive space for marginalised communuties.
Very glad to hear this! Thanks @fosstodon team for all you've done and continue to do for the FOSS community, @Gina especially.
Now, about getting my project onto fosstodon. @Gina any chance of an invite?
Koalagator is a multi-year code revival project of a 10 year old much loved calendaring platform. We have big ambitions to make local community events easier to discover on the open web, away from big tech control.

Haven’t had much capacity recently, but I cleared some space last night and did some further work on the Koalagator community calendaring platform.
Nothing to show right now, but feels good to get back onto the code and keep moving this forward.

As we consider ways to implement #ActivityPub into our FOSS Community Calendar Ecosystem platform Koalagator, I've been looking over the differing specs for how to specify the event object schema.
Have any other folk wrestled with this?Asking before I get arms deep in this stuff.
For those playing at home...
---
Schema.org - EventSchema.org is a collaborative, community activity with a mission to create, maintain, and promote schemas for structured data on the Internet.
-----
W3C Activity Vocabulary - EventThis specification describes the Activity vocabulary. It is intended to be used in the context of the ActivityStreams 2.0 format and provides a foundational vocabulary for activity structures, and specific activity types.
https://www.w3.org/TR/activitystreams-vocabulary/#dfn-event
----
Fediverse Enhancement Proposal
FEP-8a8e: A common approach to using the Event object typeActivityStreams defines the Object Type Event. In real-world applications, the event object immediately showed the need for extension. Applications featuring Event objects have often chosen to add additional attributes and clarifications (i.e., interpretations) in order to implement their particular use case. This proposal clarifies and extends the ActivityPub standard to address the needs that have arisen in real-world implementations.

[HTML] Microformats - h-event
People are using microformats to mark up profiles, posts, events and other data on their personal sites, enabling developers to build applications which use this data in useful and interesting ways.

iCalendar Standard (RFC 5545)
iCalendar was first defined as a standard as RFC 2445 in 1998 by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Today, iCalendar is used to import and synchronize events on various platforms, including smart phones, computer and web applications.

For over two years now I've been working on the revival of a community calendar that was built in the heady days of the sharing economy before Uber and friends extracted every ounce of community goodwill in their thurst for profit.
A FOSS self hosted community ecosystem calendar (like say one for the local indie band scene) seems like a natural fit for the fediverse.
I've been unpacking some ideas for how this might work in the discussions on the code repo.
Would love folks to give it a read and give any feedback.
