At this late date I still read takes along the lines of, well of course it’s very serious but humanity won’t go extinct. But we’re talking about our children living in a world where just one of its new features is that every coastal city has been swamped: (Thwaites now estimated to have a 60% chance of collapse by 2100.) So, yeah, only half the world’s population displaced. Surely somebody will survive, that’s good! I hope they represent the best of us, I guess.
