Here’s @kmckenna63 in July 2022 suggesting #abstentionism – currently isp.scot are the only pro-independence party who’ve embraced this route to de-legitimising English rule of Scotland.
“…at the 2024 General Election then the stated intention that all SNP MPs would abstain from Westminster would signify implacable intent as well as convey honesty and integrity.”

Poverty cooking is often about simple pleasures and I don’t look down on those — culinary invention usually comes from below. The thing about this particular cuisine is that it’s a bastardization of a traditional dish from one of the old countries, adapted to American postwar factory food production. What at one point was called “white trash cooking” is exactly this: people at the end of the pipeline recombining various packaged foods available in their environment.

I dreamed I was viewing a new ad for our region’s culinary specialty, which is called chili but is not. The visuals were of people’s faces artfully painted with stripes of the glistening brown meat sauce and sprinkled with cheese. Their well-lit expressions were ecstatic. (1/2)

And in the dream I connected this food-wearing to my preexisting theory that this cuisine is infantile: capable of being eaten with our without utensils, with or without teeth; when you’ve had one bite of it you know all you need to know about the rest of the meal. It should have been an unchallenging bridge to more solid and various foods, but in this incurious region the people got stuck. A neotenous culture supported by all the engines of technological image making technique. (2/2)

I finally got a pair of glasses only to correct my near field vision, for staring at the computer. I kind of like the side effect of them rendering the stuff beyond the middle ground even further out of focus. Although my eyes find staring at the blur harder work than when they are looking at soft focus photography. If I could train my eyes to relax and take in the world as if it were all just beautiful bokeh I’d never take these glasses off

Here’s a good #liquidass #liquidglass UI fail: contact info comes up as white text over a blurry background image based on the contact photo (or just a gradient if none). Copying some of the info is a *rich text paste* so if you go to copy it into a place that accepts rich text like an email, you get white text on a white background.

The Am. English epithet “chode” has now been traced back to an earlier form, “Choderlos,” a reference to Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, most famously the author of Les liaisons dangereuses, an 18th century novel which became popular in translation with American teenagers after the release of the film adaptation Dangerous Liaisons (1988). Confirmation of this etymology came when researchers chanced upon a community of Mainer Québécois who to this day pronounce the insult “ʃɔdɛ.” #spurious #etymology

Romance copy in the back of the Costco olive oil: “…produced according to the highest standards for authenticity…”, which quite literally means the *lowest* standards — I.e. that it is really oil pressed from olives. #costco #simulacra #cpg

Alt text for video: Instagram ad for a game called Trainstation 2 in which the player does things like load cargo onto trains and route trucks across busy shipping yards.
“If you’re finding it hard to properly relax, then I really recommend this mobile game… everything about this one makes me feel super calm,” the narrator says. There’s even an appeal to flow state: “it’s not too difficult, but not too easy either.”
