Toda la historia de "Jethica" 🏜️👻 (2022), dirigida por Pete Ohs, transcurre en un paraje remoto del estado de Nuevo México. Es un lugar solitario, con carreteras interminables y apenas algún árbol a la vista.
Elena (Callie Hernández) recoge a su fantasma, Benny (Adam Faulkner), y lo lleva hasta la carretera 60, donde este ha quedado con otro fantasma llamado Kevin (Will Madden).
En un fotograma de la película se pueden observar varios letreros. Uno indica que están en la carretera 60 y otro señala el camino hacia Willard por un lado y Socorro por el otro.
Decidí partir desde Willard, una localidad con no más de 300 habitantes, en dirección hacia Socorro. La primera localidad en ese trayecto es Mountainair. Siguiendo por la carretera 60, poco después de entrar en esta ciudad, me llamó la atención un cruce entre la carretera 60 y la NM-55. Tuve mucha suerte.

Co una mezcla de "El cielo sobre Berlín" (1987) y "Carnaval de las Almas" (1965) y todo ello aderezado con un poco de humor y melancolía "Jethica" 🏜️ 👻 (2022) de Pete Ohs es un ejemplo brillante de cine independiente, con un presupuesto inferior a $10,000.
La localización fue clave para el proyecto. Ohs encontró un tráiler en Airbnb en Nuevo México y lo usó como escenario principal, adaptando la narrativa a este espacio. El desértico paisaje de Nuevo México no solo sirvió como telón de fondo, sino que también aportó una atmósfera inquietante que complementa la trama (eso y que era un año pandémico y necesitaban una localización aislada).
Ohs utilizó una cámara 📷 Canon 5D Mark III con el hack Magic Lantern RAW, junto con un slider y dos luces. Este enfoque compacto permitió una producción ágil sin comprometer la calidad visual.
La edición fue un proceso único que Ohs compartió en Twitch durante más de un mes. Con apenas seis espectadores diarios, el director interactuó con su audiencia, respondiendo preguntas y ajustando escenas en tiempo real. Esta interacción convirtió la edición en una experiencia colaborativa y experimental.
El rodaje se desarrolló de manera orgánica y colaborativa. Los actores no solo interpretaron sus papeles, sino que también contribuyeron al desarrollo de sus personajes, desde los diálogos hasta el vestuario, enriqueciendo la narrativa.El guion fue escrito de forma improvisada. Ohs comenzó con un esquema básico y permitió que la historia evolucionara durante el rodaje, adaptándose a las ideas del equipo y las circunstancias del momento. Este enfoque flexible dio lugar a una obra auténtica e innovadora.

Gerade wird in #ÜberPodcast #DeutschlandfunkKultur ein bisschen über #Storytelling-Podcasts „gelästert“ (a la „Luft raus … immer das gleiche Prinzip“…) Liegt meiner Meinung daran, dass es sich viele Medienhäuser in D sehr bequem machen und einen Standard etabliert haben, der wenig lebendig ist, gerade die mit journalistischem Hintergrund hören sich oft an wie vertonte Texte mit ein paar Soundeffekten. I'm really glad that Bruce Soord was mixing this and not Steven Wilson, who shut down the few daring ideas that Ian Anderson was willing to suggest on albums like A Passion Play,
There's always the risk that whatever they did to the drum machine sounds would end up making it sound more like a conventional Tull album. Nope, it sounds like Under Wraps, but better.

The Under Wraps "book set" is here and boy is it showing the writers at UltimateClassicRock and the likes to be cloth-eared dullards. "Didn't have the songs", "Guitarist nowhere to be heard", my ass. This album is just banger after banger.
The new mix is a big improvement, staying in the spirit of the original version while adding back some bottom end, clarity and a better balance. MIDI-fying and then re-skinning the original drum parts was a bold move.
