  1. @ikuo1000 I've been using #FireBonnieHenry & #BCNDPisKillingUs for over a year because I place majority of blame at government failures to manage public health better. Those are the local to BC eugenists. They are running eugenics system instead. Making lots of money, paid by our taxes to fail/kill/disable citizens. Unforgivable.

  2. Just read 2 excellent #biography #books told in the context of the rise of #AsianAmerica.

It's neither here nor there, but I'm amused that both titles follow the format "[List of Words]: [Famous Chinese Person] and the Making of [Asian Thing]". 😄

    Loved them both. My reviews:

    - CHOP FRY WATCH LEARN: FU PEI-MEI AND THE MAKING OF MODERN CHINESE FOOD by Michelle T. King: app.thestorygraph.com/reviews/

    - WATER MIRROR ECHO: BRUCE LEE AND THE MAKING OF ASIAN AMERICA by Jeff Chang: app.thestorygraph.com/reviews/

  3. Sometimes when I try to build an IRL relationship, I'm reminded why I prefer hermitude.

It goes like this: I feel comfy w/ someone so I open up about something - could be personal, could be societal - expecting agreement or at least understanding in response. Instead, their thinking is totally orthogonal to mine & they make me feel like a weirdo.

It's not the actual disagreement that bugs me, but my misjudgment of what the other would think.

  8. The U.S. (mental) healthcare system is infuriating.

I had to seek mental healthcare for my college-aged kid. They already have a mental health provider, but that provider recommended a service they don't offer themselves. This meant we had to:

    1. Wait for the mental health provider to do whatever they do behind the scenes so my kid's PCP could actually make the referral.

  9. As a covid-aware person who sometimes must travel, I was recently pleasantly surprised to discover "Pure Wellness" hotel rooms.

Only available in limited places, it was marketed as "allergy-friendly" & cost an extra $20/night, which I was happy to pay since the room comes with an air purifier (though it was placed at the side of the room and not in a central location) so it saved me the trouble of packing my own.

  14. Watching the episode of #LittleHouseOnThePrairie where Eliza Jane Wilder does something suuuuuuuper cringe, but then you realize she's doing it to enable her brother Almanzo to marry Laura Ingalls sooner rather than much later, and it's just such an incredibly beautiful, selfless thing to do for someone she loves. 🥹 ❤️

  15. Just told an old friend (via text) that no, I don't have time for lunch this weekend (an easier excuse than bringing up covid caution) and no, we don't need a phone call so I can hear all about the (covid-unsafe) cruise he just took.

Do I feel a little bad for being antisocial? Maybe. But not as annoyed & frustrated I'd feel if I went through with either event solely out of social obligation.

Gotta set boundaries for my own mental health.

  16. THANK YOU to everyone attending No Kings events today!!! I feel so uplifted seeing all your posts and photos. I'm going to make this thread of different locations that come across my feed, to return to when I need a reminder that hope exists.

  17. Getting ready for Halloween? 🎃👻🍬

Candy is great, but for kids with food allergies, managing allergens at every turn can feel like a minefield, and passing up treats can cause feelings of exclusion.

Consider joining the Teal Pumpkin Project! Put out a teal pumpkin and have non-food alternative treats available for any trick-or-treaters who may have food allergies. 🧡🖤🧡

  18. Good news for people with food allergies!

CA just passed a law requiring restaurants with at least 20 locations to disclose allergens on their menus! It goes into effect July 1, 2026.

It's progress in allergy awareness, and maybe the benefits will go beyond CA, like if a national chain prints menus to disclose allergens in CA, maybe the same menus will be used in other states too.

  19. (This is a #masking story.)

SUPER proud of myself for NOT falling victim to #BystanderEffect.

In a large phlebotomy lab, small curtained rooms lined the walls & in the middle was a crowded waiting area.

Heard a phlebotomist say "interpreter" & watched him leave, then return, pushing a video screen on wheels into his room.

On the loud speaker, we all heard, very loudly, "Hi, I'll be your interpreter today, everything we say here will be confidential..."

    Depeche Mode, "Violator"

I guess that's a wrap! This was a fun thing to do. I'm going to miss the touch of lightheartedness in each day.

  22. @EmbodiedEthics This app is fantastic. Very easy to use. I don't go into indoor public spaces often, but when I do, I always try to bring my Aranet CO2 monitor and submit a reading. It's been great seeing more U.S. measurements on the map but we still need a lot more users to catch up with Germany! 😁

  23. Look, if you're going to invite my family for a meal & you know my kid has food allergies, when you say:

"Please bring your own food for him, since I can't commit to having more than 1 thing safe for him to eat."

    What I hear is:

"I can't be bothered to accommodate your child's food allergy, it's too inconvenient. Maybe he just shouldn't come."

And then I wonder, why are you inviting us if you don't want us to feel welcome? WHAT IS THE POINT?! 😠

  25. Eating grapefruit & I'm reminded of the time me & Person X had to supply breakfast for a group. I talked over ideas with the host, we settled on store-bought croissants, muffins & grapefruit. At the breakfast literally nobody (except me) ate what I brought, not even the host who approved the items. Person X's food was finished & I had to bring home all my leftovers. I felt so embarrassed & slighted.

This is why at any potluck I always make sure no dish is untouched.

I also hope with more people having access to CO2 monitors, maybe more people can provide data for this crowdsourced map of CO2 readings:

  27. Hello people,

Can anyone recommend a legitimate carbon offset company or organization? Or perhaps your preferred organization to donate to for fighting against the climate crisis?

I don't fly much, but I want to make a concerted effort to do something to offset the damage any time I do have to fly.

    Thanks for your help.
