Anecdotally, it appears that the general public is still quite unaware about the current negative effects of AI on personal computing.
People own digital devices, sure, but since buying those they didn't look at price charts or read industry news.
I've had several conversations by now with non-nerds and each time the topic came up, they were absolutely surprised and shocked when they were shown the price for computer hardware and then learned how AI has made computing less affordable within the timespan of only a year.
