@hlseward Thanks. It's the National Association for the Teaching of English - or 'NATE'. It was going to be in Manchester but they've had to switch to online for 'reasons'. I think it might be low numbers. The pandemic really hit the conference culture hard.

For @hlseward who asked about Fossil Thief, the pop-up bar in #Gunwharf, #Portsmouth recently. We stopped for a couple today. Small inside, not many seats, but quite a few outdoors, so nice if the weather is. Lots of drink options, fewer food, but the beer is basically Staggeringly Good's range and they're our least favourite local brewery; mostly hazy pales, mostly too carbonated. Good to have a bar and local beers there, of course, but we weren't blown away by it.

New Blog Post. It is about my ISTE (international society of technology in education) RFP to present. I'd love it if people would look at my proposal and see if I have any mistakes. Also, I have a new friend. Alonso Martinez. He works at Google AI and is an artist. I recommended him to present a keynote at ISTE.

Went to see Hamnet today. And while I don't think it's a perfect film, I was absolutely bawling my eyes out by the end. It is beautifully shot & it does make you think - and remember - those who have gone. I will try the book again now after failing to 'get through it' before watching it. Interestingly, the person I went with who loved the book, didn't enjoy it at all. Felt it had been oversimplified and had lost all the heart and subtlety of the original. #Hamnet #UKFilm #Cinema #Shakespeare

Watched all three episodes of "Jane Austen - Rise of a Genius" yesterday. Highly recommended even if you haven't read any of her books. They've got the most interesting people talking about her and the dramatisations are very good too. It's a really successful mix of education and entertainment. A moment of teaching insanity today - which I did contribute to, fair enough. A Yr11 guessed exactly the poem and question on their Lit Paper 1 - so I bought them a bag of onions as a prize ("I give you an onion" Valentine, Carol Ann Duffy). Another student then proceeded to eat a raw onion, just because. It was a spicy one. Tears and retching ensued.
