I sure hope we'll have a panel discussion about #GitOps at #continuouslifecycle again!

As far as I remember, we did discuss it last year. I still remember my conclusion: Like everything else GitOps is no silver bullet. Myself and a growing number of people see value in it. You don't. I presume we'll agree to disagree this year again. Or are you're going to tell me that I'm full of 🐂💩?

  2. I had the pleasure to attend JCON 2024 (@jcon) in Cologne this week. It was a well organized community conference. I talked with a lot of people. I also gave a talk about SBOMs on the third day.

  8. I am surprised that ‘trunk-based development’ is not one of DORA's core capabilities.
This capability in particular is the basis for implementing efficient and low-maintenance CI/CD pipelines.
Otherwise you end up with a situation where the pipeline code is more complex than the application code. Anyone who has ever had to implement a CI/CD pipeline for an organisation working with git-flow knows what I mean.
    No, git-flow is NOT trunk-based. That's it.

  9. Stardate -298700.
It's unbelievable that I still have to discuss the usefulness of release candidates and the disadvantages of a Maven SNAPSHOT/release procedure these days.
Or that the Maven release plugin is just a piece of crap.
Or that Gitflow is not particularly suitable in a CI/CD and agile context.
I feel trapped in a retro time warp.

AWS CodeCommit still not able to enforce GPG signed commits?
    Maybe someone has an idea.

  11. Although WeaveWorks didn't do the DevOps community any favors with "GitOps", it's a shame that they have to close up. They built great tools and I hope Flux survives under the CNCF umbrella.

  22. Today, almost a month after a security incident was announced, Okta notified me that my data was also affected.
    One month.
It's bad enough that there was such an incident, but then to take a month for this notification doesn't build trust.

    Farewell, Okta.

  24. @schnatterer

I think your effort on GitOps is impressive, but unfortunately that doesn't make GitOps any better. It was, is and remains simply a marketing bubble.

Unfortunately, at last year's conference, you didn't seem to feel like discussing the topic with me in detail at the roundtable.
But what about this years ?
Maybe the conference would like to organize a panel discussion on the topic.

    @map would you be interested?

  25. Actually, I don't want to take up political issues here.
However, today is the 30th anniversary of the Sivas massacre. In this massacre, 35 innocent people, including 9 teenagers, were killed by a radical islamist mob. They had burnt down a hotel where an cultural festival was being held.

    30 years of no justice.
