i recently replaced my #pinephone's screen, and decided to write a bit about it. another blog post is out at https://hamblingreen.com, and it's a longer one this time. i also replaced my first #ppkb's main board. this was the first article written with the #barf blog generator. check it out, and if you have feedback you can reply here or email me
edit: typo in website address

another blog post is (finally) up! this time, i take a first look at using the #pinephone with the #nexdock lapdock. i've really enjoyed using the device over the last few days, and look forward to continuing to use it after i head off to college this fall.
my rss feed is also updated, so if you want to be notified of my future experiences linux on ARM devices, add this to your rss reader

another blog post is out, this time a spotlight on the #framebufferphone UI available on #pmOS and soon(tm) #danctnix arch ARM! i've been working on porting this framebuffer centered unique interface for a while now and am excited for it to become daily driver ready in the future. https://hamblingreen.com/ or rss.
edit: let me know what you think about the framebufferphone idea by replying here or emailing me at hamblingreen at hotmail dot com

another post on my blog, #PineBudsPro first impressions, is now available at my new domain https://hamblingreen.com! i'll explore my week with the new @PINE64 earbuds and talk about the future of this community driven project with a few music puns thrown in. as always, an rss feed is available on the site. this is a special one as it's the first post on the site hosted on my #Rock64 home server. i'm still figuring out letsencrypt stuff, so for now it says its a self signed certificate. enjoy!
-
i'm working on a first impressions article on the #PineBuds covering my personal experience after 3 full days of use, and i'm really impressed so far with them! i'm currently working on hosting my website on my #rock64 sbc, and will put up the article at hamblingreen.com when i get the self hosting situation sorted. i'll also toot here when that article goes live, it's been too long since my last full blog post.

@hamblingreen I've been tempted to get the #PineBudsPro to replace my JBL earbuds that have never fit my ears correctly. Are you able to adjust the size while still fitting them in the charging case?
Also, have you checked out the #Bangle.js2 to compare with #PineTime? I'd be curious to know your thoughts on how they compare.

i made a script to integrate my #geohashing expeditions with the #mepo #OSM viewer. you can view it at both the geohashing wiki or the mepo mailing list linked below. the script calculates the geohash and opens mepo with a pin at that day's hashpoint. if you are new to geohashing or want to give it a shot check out https://geohashing.site for more information.

woah, my new website is actually a thing now. https://hamblingreen.com if you want to see a blog I havent updated since may. hey, i've been busy, but im working on an article about #framebufferphone and its awesomeness, so keep an eye out for that. i have an #rss feed linked on the site :)
-
@hamblingreen Great! #framebufferphone was a bit to basic for me personally when I tried it, but it's great to have it on another distribution 🙂
-
@hamblingreen @brecht @normandc @mike I don't think it's possible with #sxmo, but see this toot from @linmob using #swmo: https://fosstodon.org/@linmob/107049945578329447
-
@hamblingreen There seems to be a lot enough, approx. more than what a standard #linbits post had a year ago.
-
Last major issue to fix before releasing fbp 0.6.1 and using #framebufferphone as my daily driver: The UI is really slow, unresponsive, and crashes often on any platform other than the original pinephone with pmOS. Likely due to a memory leak
-
i'm adding my first new feature to #fbp since inheriting the project, a system clock that sits on the keyboard statusline, and i'm using the C time library because there isn't a good one in the zig standard library. for whatever reason, it works just fine with optimizations off (-Doptimize=Debug) but spits out garbage time values when optimizations are on (-Doptimize=ReleaseFast). this is gonna be a pain to figure out
-
another zig release, you know what that means... upgrading the #fbp codebase to 0.13. hooray!

#numen is now available on the AUR for anyone on desktop or #linuxmobile #Arch (or a derivative) looking to easily try out this voice recognition software. give it a try at https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/numen. if you like it consider contributing to the main project at https://git.sr.ht/~geb/numen. i tested with #sxmo recently and was pleasently surprised at how efficient controlling my device was with it.
-
Hello from #numen on my #pinephone! This was completly written hands-free Using voice recognition. Being able to Entirely control your #linuxmobile Device With your voice is astonishing.
-
@JF @PINE64 Loving the 1.6 update too, reconnecting through #gadgetbridge is so easy! Can't wait to try #Amazfish or #siglo once my #pinephone arrives!
-
been using my #pinephonepro with the #nexdock daily for all my engineering classes for about a month now, and loving it so far! some programs i was pleasantly surprised by include #logisim, #rnote, and #eclipseide. i didn't expect these programs to work well but they are actually so useful and work just as well, if not a bit slower, than on my thinkpad. up next i'll need to install #wine and #ltspice for more circuit design :)
-
what am i doing? just improving my blog by editing the `barf` build script to fit my needs! attached is a screenshot of what i'm doing right now sitting on my couch with my #pinephone connected to the #nexdock. my goal is to get a title and subtitle to show above the navbar in the header that is generated based off the first few lines of each article's markdown file. i've already succeeded in making this work for the landing page!
-
i finally got around to writing my #nexdock first impressions article, it'll be going up on the website in the morning when i have the lighting for decent pictures.
-
you'll never guess what came today! the #nexdock 360 running off my linux phone is here. i reconfigured my #convergence setup to suit it, and i've ordered a phone mount, shorter usb-c cable, and a case for the lapdock. so far it's been fantastic to use. a first impressions article on the blog is coming soon!
-
so despite advice to get an old thinkpad and use that for school, the appeal of a #nexdock was just too much. i bought one! my deciding factor is that i recently found not 1 but 2 old x86 laptops that i can put arch on and use in case i need to use proprietary software unavailable on ARM. i'll be sure to do a first impressions review once i recieve the lapdock. i also grabbed a shorter usb-c cable and a magnetic mount for the pinephone for ease of use
-
i just discovered the #nexdock and i'm really excited. ever since i started using my #pinephone in desktop #convergence i've wanted to find a laptop shell that i could turn into a convergence device, and the nexdock ticks all the boxes. to any users of the linux phone and nexdock, what's your experience with the devices been like? thanks to the @linmob weekly update for introducing me to this via the purism post about it!
-
woah i can't believe i haven't yet noticed, the community maintained firmware for the @PINE64 #pinebudspro has been put up on github! i'm excited to see where this project goes. i'll work on a follow up article to my first impressions of the device once i publish the infinitime spotlight tomorrow on my blog. hooray for the pine64 community!
-
(2/2) but this is super neat and i can't wait for the voice recognition library numen uses to mature fully so that numen can be used to more intuitively do things like set timers while cooking, etc. im excited for what numen has in store for the mobile and desktop linux communities! the #linmob weekly update inspired me to give numen a try, and im glad i did.
-
on my #rock64 i plan on hosting a personal #nextcloud file serer, mail server with postfix/dovecot, and #sourcehut server. i plan on booting #archlinuxarm on it and i'm excited beyond belief. i should write out my self-hosting plans in a blog post
-
i just placed my second-ever order from the @PINE64 store, including a #rock64 and needed power supply and casing, a new #ppkb as mine has unfortunately stopped working long past its warranty period, a #pinedio pinephone add-on case, and a #pinepower desktop power supply. can't wait to recieve and start tinkering with my new toys!
-
@linmob #megapixels 1.5.0 just arrived in the danctnix-testing repo, can't wait to try it out tomorrow when the lighting is better. #mobileposix is a more descriptive name than #linuxphones i suppose, but a bit more confusing to me. whatever the weekly update is called, thanks for another great roundup. megi's latest ppp camera update was an interesting read

list of tech goals over winter break:
[] home server setup (wip)
[x] #LoRa #Pinephone back case meshtastic connection
[] figure out LoRa #PineDio usb communicator
[] pinephone fingerprint back case
[] actually maintain #framebufferphone
[x] read the Pragmatic Programmer
[x] figure out what's wrong with my #ppkb (charging circuit :/)
- and probably more i'm forgettingi've got a bit of work to do
-
i just bought a replacement #pinephone screen for the one i cracked, along with an actual protective case and a replacement main board for my old #ppkb. i fried the charging circuit in my first ppkb a while ago and just bought another as the replacement board wasn't available at the time, but now that it is it'll be a fun project to replace it! i decided against buying the #pinephonepro for now, maybe i'll change my mind before college in the fall.
