Discourse has an official ActivityPub plugin, though it is fairly rudimentary at this point, and needs more love I'd say.
The #SocialHub community forum is federated, for instance. https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks and is also used by the AP plugin maintainers for testing the functionality.

I've been spring cleaning to exorcise evil spirits and bad qi (unnecessary metadata) from my notes:

Now and then I like to try portable Linux distributions, which are great if you have access to computers that you don't own, and you want to be able to keep your operating system with you as you move.
Puppy Linux is one of the easier options and it's compatible with Ventoy with a little effort. :puppylinux:

#slax is a fun portable #linux distro. Worth trying out if you want a distro you can throw on a USB drive and run on any PC (with an unsecured BIOS). They used to be #slackware based but now they use #debian, which makes them a bit more accessible for casuals like me.

Hi everyone!
I just joined #Fosstodon thanks to the help of @fd93 and @btp who kindly shared an invite with me.
I'm interested in #FOSS, Android privacy, F-Droid and the future of open mobile ecosystems.
Happy to be here and learn from the #Fediverse community!

Apparently a mention does not arrive at #SocialHub, perhaps a new top-level post does. I cannot check how the AP plugin is configured. Perhaps I'm holding it wrong, or these are the rough edges that exist.

#PyPA #virtualenv is yet another #Python project that "optimizes" its test suite by using time-machine. Since time-machine works on CPython only, it also keeps supporting #freezegun but you are allowed to use it on PyPy only now.
I really do wonder if this "optimization" actually makes anything faster, and if it outweighs the added complexity. The complexity also falls on downstreams (#Gentoo).
But that's modern development for you! "Shiny! Must have it!"

GASP: this Naaikussen "#sewing cushion" is divine. And it turns out Grace is a CAD designer and woodworker besides being a #lacemaker. She re-created the historical cushion and provides the plans for other people to follow [link to her PDF there].
They have fabric covers and are padded arc shapes on the outside, but the center is a hinged compartment with little storage cubbies.

Have been using Automate to get better workflows for notes on my phone and it's nice, but not open source sadly. Tasker is open source but seems really hard to use.
Are there any open source apps for android that let you just write Python or Lua or something and do a workflow?

@lmgenealogy #rclone has some support for #protondrive. Sadly someone will need to open a shell to get it working, but I use rclone mount (cache mode full) a lot for dealing with remote files.
For distro, Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora are all solid for general use and fairly beginner friendly.

Added isso comments to my blog at last! Took about half a day of work to get everything sorted, so not so bad.
Happy because I can avoid paying Disqus, ads, third party tracking, etc.
(moderation queue is enabled to deal with spam; article on the whole slightly messy process coming soon)

Just wanted to shout out isso for being lightning fast in responding to my small PR here.
Also, good example PR to show contributing to FOSS doesn't have to be big or dramatic to be useful and get merged 🙂

Been reading "How Linux Works" by Brian Ward and it makes me want to install Arch / Gentoo / LFS despite knowing that this is a terrible idea for a computer I want to y'know, use.
How do people deal with systems they just want to play with for sysadmin stuff? VMs / containers? Homelab? I have hardware I could play with.

Have been hyping lazygit at work as even if you already know git commands it speeds things up a lot. Efficient keybinds! Multi repo navigation! Easy-to-view branches!
