  2. We've released v0.10.0 of qpixel, the platform. Lots of new features since the last release, including SAML/SSO, better Docker support, spam mitigation, and about a zillion usability and accessibility improvements across many functional areas. Release notes: github.com/codidact/qpixel/rel

  3. Today I learned that there were other haftarah readings where we now have the special ones surrounding Tisha b'Av. I wondered about this during one of the haftarot of consolation this year, asked on #codidact, and tonight got an answer listing the original readings as listed by Rambam. Neat!

  4. @level2wizard #Codidact is #FOSS, non-profit, community-run, and currently very small. Want to help us grow? software.codidact.com/ is one of our communities.

  5. In light of AI partnerships by , , &c w/OpenAI, we at have gotten questions from our community about our intentions. Official board response: meta.codidact.com/posts/291599

"We share the concerns we have heard from our community about how these companies will use such content. We do not see how such a partnership could benefit our users[...] If we were to receive a proposal that we feel could benefit the community, we commit to discussing it openly and transparently..."

  6. @[email protected] @Codeberg we think there's an opportunity for folks to take what we learned on and elsewhere and build a new & better place. Some SO/SE users brought over some of their work & then *improved* it on , so we have the best version. We want to help folks solve the problems they're having now, which might not be the ones folks had in 2009. We're trying new things to supplement Q&A. It's a chance to try ideas in a fresh setting where we can modify the platform as needed.

  7. The best open source alternative to Stack Overflow seems to be #Codidact - codidact.org/

Ironically, their community is on Discord and their software is on Github, another two big corporations which make business from users' work.

  8. @thejackimonster @nixCraft I'd like to humbly put in a plug for #codidact. We're small, non-profit, & FOSS, and we welcome communities and contributors. We don't have SO's 20M questions or 50M users, but we have people who care, want to help other humans, and want to build something better. The code base is not ancient & inflexible; we can & do innovate. (Not federated yet, but someday...)

We have a community for software dev (software.codidact.com) & several others too. I hope you'll visit.

  9. @Naughtylus @taq @nixCraft

#Codidact developer here - AFAIK all content on SO is licensed under CC BY-SA, so copying over the question should be ok w/ attribution.

Although if you have time to possibly improve/generalize the question, that would be great too of course :D

  10. I recall discussing accidental channel drag/drop on #Discord with somebody here but don't remember who. This has been bugging me for a while because it's too easy to accidentally move things but I really do need to have admin access on certain servers. I asked on #Codidact Power Users and someone wrote a userscript that does the job. Ah, much better! If you're having this problem too, check it out:

  11. @poebbel software.codidact.com is another possibility -- not specific to #emacs like some of the other suggestions you've gotten, but public Q&A for software development writ large. Tools are definitely on-topic there. (#Codidact is non-profit and open-source.)

  12. Just found out about #codidact - a "community-run, open-source Q&A platform", aka #StackExchange's replacement! What an exciting time to be alive!

  13. We have revamped our process for proposing new for our network. Now instead of just telling us about it and waiting for people to express interest, you can get started by asking and answering questions, refining the proposal and building community in the process. If you have a group with a shared interest looking to do Q&A and other knowledge-sharing in an open, flexible environment, check it out.

  14. @smallcircles
Codidact is not a good alternative to stackexchange. It’s privacy-hostile & jailed in #Cloudlfare’s walled garden.

We do need a good #stackexchange alternative but #Codidact is not it.

  15. I'm the main bug-triage person for #Codidact, meaning I try to make sure that problems reported on our sites that require code changes get filed as GitHub issues where developers will see them. Sometimes a bug looks small and easy and I think "fixing that would be less effort than writing it up and tagging it". Sometimes I'm right and sometimes the attempt is followed by me writing up the #bug. :-) Either way I'm #learning stuff, which is pretty cool! (More frontend than Ruby so far.)

  16. Given the recent #StackOverflow controversies, figured I would share this site: #Codidact: software.codidact.com/

Definitely useful if you're looking for another community that's run by a non-profit on open-source code.

  17. Just learnt that there's an open source alternative to Stack Exchange called Codidact: codidact.org. Of course, it also has a StackOverflow-style software Q&A: software.codidact.com. No idea if it's any good given that a website like this really only is as useful as its community, but I've always felt a bit icky contributing to a proprietary forum like Stack Exchange, so it's certainly interesting.

  22. Today I learned a *lot* about how a #UPS works, and about the difference between standby and line-interactive UPS, and voltage drops, and capacity. (I am not an electrical engineer, not even a hobbyist.) The question that started me down this path was: why would a UPS shut off and thus turn off my computer when the power didn't go out?

    Thanks, #electrical #engineering #Codidact! I learned things today beyond "I need a new UPS".

  23. What an interesting #halacha question! Does the definition of "cooking" (bishul) depend on the context or day of the week? The practical answer is that you can't eat this food, but the interesting question is *why*. judaism.codidact.com/posts/294

  24. I'm trying to change the email address I use for mailing lists through #GoogleGroups, ideally without unsubscribing/resubscribing for each list. Their documentation implies you can do it but what they say doesn't match what I see. More details at powerusers.codidact.com/posts/. Anyone know a way to do this?

  25. Neat #halacha question: can #Jewish Mastodon help?

There's debate, I know, on whether it's kosher to pray from a #siddur #app. For those who say yes (w/distractions turned off), what is the status of the phone while doing so? Is it #kodesh (holy), like an actual siddur is, meaning if you touch something that isn't you have to wash your hands before proceeding? Or is it just a phone, and only the app has special status? Got #sources? Answers here good, there even better!
