  1. @atoponce In a company I used to work for we had adopted #Zulip as a chat system. It worked really well. And the threads/topics were something to get used to, but it made a lot of sense.

Too bad that some voices had lobbied against Zulip (in favour of Slack ... which 'everybody else' was doing). The migration happened, and ongoing costs for it were *much* higher, and usability was down. But ... the moaners got their wish to use Slack and not Zulip :-/

    @zulip rocks!

    Feature flag is here: chrome://flags/#prompt-api-for-gemini-nano

When enabled, it powers demos like this: chrome.dev/web-ai-demos/prompt

    #AI #GeminiNano

  3. @atoponce

My experience with #Stryd is that I tend to disregard body feel, in favour of the power numbers.

This means I am more likely to sprain my ankle, or strain my Plantar

  4. @atoponce holymoly, i just had a look at github.com/uutils/coreutils/bl

this thing has 419 dependencies! maybe irrelevant mem-safety benefits are not in balance with the consequences of this kind of supply-chain attack surface? maybe we should have a talk about this?

    #uutils #rust #riir

  6. @atoponce: I don't do any of that besides e.g. comments in #etckeeper commits or my mail archive.

I've seen people using #elog (elog.psi.ch/elog/) for such purposes, but it got removed from Debian (Unstable) in 2022 (see bugs.debian.org/1009911) and the last Debian release it seems to have been in was Debian 8 Jessie (currently oldoldoldstable in ELTS state).

  7. CW: trigger warning

@atoponce @thanius I skimmed through the posts, I do agree that @Raspberry_Pi could have reacted more wise.
However many of the people responding have been ver unfriendly and #toxic
many say that #mastodon is the friendly alternative to #twitter I strongly disagree. There are many people here who just cant help themselves and behave like #asholes and just looking for a quarrel.
It has nothing to do with the platform, it's about the users that are on.

  12. @atoponce @joel It turns out PTIO changed their github acct name from #privacytoolsIO to #privacytools so the bug reports were not deleted. That small stupid change broke a shit-ton of links though. This is the new location → github.com/privacytools/privac

  13. @atoponce @joel W.r.t #PrivacyToolsIO prioritizing money above their principles, I’ll elaborate. When it was pointed out that #PayPal shares customer data with over 600 corporations, the list of which was furnished to #PrivacyTools, not only did they continue accepting #PayPal donations but they neglected to warn their donors about it. That info should not be concealed; it should be transparent.

  14. @gabriel @atoponce I suggest you guys follow #mitigator ([email protected]). It’s a quite useful service that will follow back & monitor the links you post, and ultimately DM you with a better link if you post a Cloudflare link. A guide is here: framagit.org/dCF/deCloudflare/

  15. @joel @atoponce Now it looks like Burung Hantu has deleted the #PTIO bug tracker. That’s quite revolting because it was rich with information. Those bug reports were a good way to see the harms & pitfalls of the tools that #PrivacyTools endorses. It also hilighted PTIO’s blatant disregard for accuracy and integrity.

  16. @joel @atoponce Burung Hantu & Jonah Aragon are both quite incompetent. The fight between them is actually a good thing b/c #PrivacyToolsIO has always pushed misinfo & omissions (they hold back on publishing the pitfalls of the tools they recommend). Their interest is _money_. The conflict of interest & incompetence is evident by the link itself: that article is in #Cloudflare.

If it weren't for the horribleness that is the
#AWS #FleetManager to access #Windows EC2s via RDP(ish), I wouldn't use Chrome. However, AWS decided that FleetManager should be horrible to use with non #Chromium browsers (or maybe AWS just hates #Firefox).

  18. RE: fosstodon.org/@atoponce/116291

I was today years old, when I got to know about the difference between "vertical split" meaning in #vim and #tmux or #wezTerm

Good thing I've tried pretty much every other init out there last year so I can just move to any distro regardless of init.

They're honestly not that hard. I'm liking Void Linux's runit rn and dinit feels like systemd. Sysv's kinda ok but I'll get the hang of it.

I'm not gonna migrate out of systemd distros like Fedora, Debian, Arch and sum of their derivatives though, but if I ever see a window that asks for my birth day, I'm O-U-T, out!

    #voidlinux #runit #systemd #archlinux #fedora #debian
