@ahasty @ati1 @linmob You should be able to use #Thunderbird for #PGP encrypted email (with mobile-config-thunderbird), or webmail instance that supports it like #SnappyMail or any other webmail using #Mailvelope extension in Firefox.
Not sure about #YubiKey, #NitroKey or alternatives as I've never used any, but they should connect to the Librem's USB-C port. The #Librem5 has a slot for a PGP smart card ( #LibremKey ?) to store private keys so you could also use that. Hopefully, someone who's used that can see your question and answer, or you can ask in Purism forums or pmOS Matrix room.

So the FBI can log in and change setting ob privately owned devices because they are a threat to the country. However if any security research group did this it would be a violation of the computer fraud and abuse act. I feel like this is an huge overreach, even if its for the better. How about notify ISP and have them notify customers?

So I think the biggest problem I have is I am looking for two products in one.
1. Secure/private cloud storage. Encrypted at rest but with a good sync option. https://tresorit.com/
2. A collaboration tool that will allow users with free/no account to collab on docs in a web based editor like https://cryptpad.fr/
Looking for something that does this well at the same time. bonus points for good open standards support so its easy to sync/import/backup myself

OK so someone talk me down here.. Can I build a custom live distro with just the apps I use and use something like a self hosted sh file that I can pipe to shell to setup my customization and download dotfiles and have a ephemeral OS that I can be at "home" with any x64 PC with an internet connection? How feasible is this? anyone doing somehting similar. I mean I web browse, email and write some code..

After describing my thoughts to a group of people who are politically active I *THINK* I can now articulate my position.
I want a future where my kids are free to experience the world, society, and the internet, without every action being monetized by some invasive, always on, invisible techno capitalist regime.
- No surveillance advertising
- No data brokers
- No government backed mass surveillanceThis is the path to truly experiencing joy and discovering what make them the people they already are.

Any good #encryption people on here that can tell me what I should be looking to do with Yubikey and PGP for post quantum readiness?

In my late teens, I cooked for waffle house, 10pm to 6am. I have seen many people that would likely claim to have teleported sit in the booths. I can assure you very few of them actually did. #wafflehouse #wafflehouseteleport #teleport #USpol

So I have been running fedora desktop for years now. I am a big fan of using it. But it looks like age verification could come to the platform and I will need to shop around.
I spend a lot of time in terminal, openscad, vscodium and firefox.
Mostly doing python/web/opensource hardware dev work.
Taking suggestions!
P.S. if it was light enough to work on my old surface pro3 bonus points

AI.. its everywhere and in everything. In general its just a plugin, that does some stuff to "make life easier" and that's what a plugin is.
but beyond that, its being powered by billionaire who are using their wealth and name to pump up a bubble, making promises to buy more ram and SSDs than the market can afford, to push every day folks away from ownership. They want to put these things into data centers that are taking water away from people, polluting the air they need and staining the gird.
and if you take it out of that system and use it locally with minimal power (hey I can run models on my laptop) you still are using a product that has stolen the copyright of almost every creator of the last century. The same copyright laws Anthropic is using to force take downs of the source code their own system leaked.
But its going to be OK. Just make sure you have your government issued ID before you log on.

@bradr you know what....copilot can have all my code. Its mostly broken hacked together shit and if they think it will make things better for other people they are sorely mistaken. #fuckbigtech

@bitpirate while this is laughable it seems like a complete failure of the CNA (VULSec Labs). I would think RustDesk would have a decent complaint to make to MITRE

Sometimes you just have to watch the rain. Someone has to teach the next generation how to do it, why not me.

Fediverse got me out here defending #proton mail.
Just a general reminder, PGP/GPG protects the inside of the email, it does not protect the following:
- Who you sent it to
- the address you used to send it
- The Subject of the message
- The IPs you used to connect to mail severs
- the name and payment information you used when you signed up for the provierIt takes a lot of work and privacy is a sliding scale
