@abraxas3d First and foremost stay safe out there, I hope you weather #hurricane #Hilary safely.
Thank you for sharing this design - when are you doing the talk with #qsotoday? I don’t listen to that one regularly, however I’d like to hear more about this!

@abraxas3d Pretty much impressed by testing iOS #Rattlegram implementation.

@abraxas3d
Your #rattlegram a rather interesting #hamradio app for "data transfer via acoustic coupling to a HF rig". I would like to get it installed on my Android phone.I don't have a Google account active on my phone, hence no play store access.
What is your recommendation where to get the app? (I already checked Fdroid.)

@gmoretti @va3db @abraxas3d I do love me some solder smoke - just because of being busy, I don’t get to listen to many podcasts, but #HamRadioWorkbench, #SolderSmoke, and #LinuxInTheHamShack are the ones on my short list when I can.

Next up on #QSOtoday is "A Shortened HF Antenna" by @abraxas3d!

@jsonstein @kb6nu ok on the good side of the ledger: We organized entire forum tracks for digital communications in space. AMSAT was grumpy about this, but we did it anyway, and it was very successful. We demonstrated all our stuff, and some people really liked it. I made some real friends. We sold hamset themed Trans-Ionospheric conference badges (2018) and it was a huge fund-raiser for us. Badges are *still* talked about in #badgelife
Our booth rocked and I had a full crew every year we went.

#opulentVoice call over the air at 431.35 MHz in San Diego CA.

Moving #OpulentVoice to be over the air in San Diego, CA, USA, and we had a fun driver bug that resulted in a very wrong spectrum.

Look at this cool simulation #radio art from NB0X. He's one of our designers at @OpenResearchIns
Tried to do it justice in the alt text.
We also have some very interesting patterns in the MSK transmission that I have been trying to figure out why they are there. In the main lobe of the MSK, clearly visible using #maia, are two columns of patterns. They look like faces, bugs, and other forms. I'll try and track a good example of that for a next post.

Big step forward for the #AMSAT_UK Mode Dynamic Transponder (MDT) Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) design from @OpenResearchIns
https://github.com/OpenResearchInstitute/Mode-Dynamic-Transponder
Polyphase channelizer for digging out weak signals on 70cm from space. We'll use the same design to make a communications channelizer for #Haifuraiya.

#vintage #computer #frestival #socal plenty to see here! Really enjoyed the saga of recovering the #intercal 72 compiler. Excellent presentation by Sean Haas.

Software modem (c++) running on a #PlutoSDR receiving an #OpulentVoice signal transmitted from the HDL version in a #LibreSDR.
Big interoperability milestone achieved tonight.

2018, Lyrid meteor shower, created from an overnight run of automated #astrophotography with my DSLR.
I have never done #meteorscatter. Pretty much the only way I'd get to do this mode is with an automated system. Which, sounds super fun to build. A sensor to detect paths, and then a radio to order to give it a shot.

If anyone happens to be at @fosdem 31 Jan - 1 Feb then one of our @OpenResearchIns volunteers will be presenting #OpulentVoice work. Please feel free to introduce yourself to Evariste @f5oeo Wish I could be there in person!

I got asked about #RADE work. It is impressive, but it's solving an HF specific problem. The Watterson channel model, the -2 dB SNR operation, and analog style degradation is tuned for a propagation environment where we see ionospheric multipath with fade periods measured in hundreds of milliseconds. It's a narrow (and important) niche, but it doesn't generalize upward in frequency where the channel is very different and higher bandwidth signals are legal.

Things are moving very fast for an #opulentVoice ASIC.
This is on track to be the first #opensource #hamradio chip in the world, and will have much better voice quality and user experience than any other digital voice option out there. Radio hardware to follow.
Funding and partners are now in place, despite tariff and supply chain challenges.
It's an honor and privilege to work with a fantastic international team of ORI volunteers.

Frame lock signaling work moving forward fast - we'll talk about it today at @OpenResearchIns weekly meetup.
New sync word successfully received, flywheel style frame synchronization state machine working well so far.
Verification/Validation started. Found an initialization bug that affects only the second frame. Not bad for the first run of upgraded code. Thank you to everyone helping with #OpulentVoice! -
@liquor_american well, at least they're in the same vertical order on both keys? #brightside
