  1. Whoops, 5 months since I last looked at xero. Time to send some invoices, I guess.

  2. Trying to change my subscription on Disney plus ... And apparently the changes will apply to my next billing cycle on 9th December 2025.

    Nice there.

  8. @LewisWorkshop if you're looking at a greenhouse, we bought one of these a couple of years ago - Halls Popular - hallsgreenhouses.com/uk/halls- (10gt x 6ft, green, toughened glass)

(they appear to be slightly cheaper now than back in 2024 too!).

The boss seems to like it

  13. So, Numpty 1 paid the same invoice twice.
Numpty 2 paid back the over payment, but muddled up some numbers (e.g. instead of 1234.56, paid back 1243.56).

Now, Numpty 1 needs to pay back 1243.56, so Numpty 2 can pay back the right amount .... and hopefully everything will be back to 'correct'.

  14. An hour of cycling ... ~1000 calories.
Hopefully that earns me some cake later.

  15. erk, i messed up the args to openssl, so rather than encrypting something with a password from a file called .pass, it used the literal string ".pass".

It only took ~6 months to spot.

  16. something geeky to do on Friday 14th.

conf.techmids.org/ (techmids conference 2025, birmingham uk)

  17. CW: Health

@LewisWorkshop I'm glad to see things getting better.

  18. Whoops ... Clearly I cut the poor guinea pig's claw too short ...

    "Management" (child[2]) isn't happy.

  19. So it's phone migration day (pixel 6a -> 8a)

And once again I experience how bad the android phone migration process is.

Why can't it just copy everything over ? I really shouldn't have to reconfigure my various email accounts / banking / social media apps etc etc.

  20. The new mail server decided to to kill itself last night (suspiciously just after 00:00).

At least I hadn't deleted the old VM so a rollback was possible.

  21. Ah hah ! It's cool enough to play ball now human !

  22. I can't decide if this is a good attempt at email phishing, or a complete idiot thought it was a good idea to enable click tracking in the mail with some shitty unknown provider.

s1so7.mjt.lu/lnk/EAAAByoNL7wAA...... doesn't exactly look legit does it?

(The license number and expiry date are accurate, but for all I know, the tv licensing people could have had a data breach).

  23. Back from a one week holiday in Longleat. We enjoyed ourselves and loved the location with plenty of activities to entertain all of us.

But perhaps the real highlight was our youngest eating some new foods (Bella Italia vegan pizza and garlic bread ... Which is an improvement over her last holiday staple food of French McDonald's fries).

Unfortunately we're needing to do things in 4s now and have a number of new teddy bears.

    Small victories perhaps .....

  24. Time to pull my finger out and use gatus.io

  25. This week has been mostly messing around with doing a point in time restore for mysql and testing / bug fixing upgrading to mysql 8.

So far the only annoyance is json_set() changing numeric values into floats when they were ints before.

  26. i wonder how a newrelic email address got to a 3rd party (apollo)

  27. We had our software pen tested recently.

So it was the annual time to review our SSL cipher support on the load balancers etc.

Unfortunately cipher selection seems full of incomprehensible anagrams which are hard to visually parse, and the config options never match what you do/don't want in test output.

Still at least we can actually drop support for IE11 as no one is using it.
