  1. @DenOfEarth there used to be another local Smurf (white roof over blue) #SoulEV and we always had a big wave or flash and smile from the driver 😁
but haven’t seen it/her for ages now ☹️

  2. @DenOfEarth @vwdasher #SoulEV has just had to have its rear calipers unstuck at 6.5yo. #e_Niro has rusty rear discs at 4yo.

There wasn’t much salt used on roads this winter either I probably don’t use them hard enough to dry them out

  3. @DenOfEarth @SteveInVentura the advantage of the #ChargeMap app was that it seemed very up to date on current status, and included reviews from recent users who successfully charged.

The issue on the first night in the parking garage is that the chargers had no QR code and would only accept cards like ChargeMap for contactless payments, which a foreigner like me can’t get with no local address.

Fortunately, I hadn’t driven far, so didn’t need to solve that problem.

  8. @DenOfEarth @geekygearhead I really love what BMW seem to be doing with the Neue Klasse.

This might be the first EV I would consider buying new rather than leasing, as long as they don’t screw up the pricing by making it too expensive. I know it’s not going to be cheap, but let’s keep it close to current 3 series pricing.

  9. @DenOfEarth @vulgalour When Elon took over Twitter I wanted to make this space because I think #WeirdCarTwitter and the explicitly LGBTQ inclusive Mastodon were a good fit. I’m really proud a user from such an esteemed instance would fly our colors.

  10. @DenOfEarth @davidwilkins that character looks like a #Goscinny creation… 🤔

I don’t care what you call it. I call mine a Touring, because that’s what it does.

The station wagon was a wagon that went the station to pick up cousins or guests along with their luggage.

The “break” 🇫🇷 was a franglish bastardisation of language that suggested weekend getaways.

The shooting brake was, well, something to do with bald fat white guys shooting wildlife.

    Who cares?! 😂

  15. @DenOfEarth @BitchinRob @serichards @FlanFlinger I don’t know if you got to sit in the #BMWi3 or not, but in terms of size, the front seats on the i3 feel very roomy IMO. Easily equal to our 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. It will also travel from 0-60 in about 7s 🆚 11s for the Soul.

Seat height adjustment is available for both front seats, the car comes with full climate control (not just manual a/c, which is less efficient + more annoying).

  16. @DenOfEarth Didn’t the #RAV4 of the same era achieve a similar distinction? I remember accompanying friends to test drive one in Virginia twenty years ago, and it even had a warning on the visor (or above it) about an increased risk of rollover. 🤷‍♂️

  17. @DenOfEarth @Mark: Missed it, too, as it had no hashtag, especially not #WeirdCarMastodon. I'm adding the condition to not have to think about climate consequences as otherwise it's no fun…

  18. @DenOfEarth @chromblitzen 😂

I didn’t know that it existed either. 😜

I can’t say that I’m a big fan, but maybe we should all be glad that someone made something quite so unique from a #CitroenDS.

  19. @DenOfEarth @Basmitharts this new #LandCruiser seems to take some design cues from the #FJCruiser, which probably explains why I like it.

I test drove one of these in 2006. The interior and driving dynamics (around town) were very disappointing, so I never considered buying, but I still like seeing them around.

  20. @DenOfEarth @autonerdery the #Turo test car from 2014, with the top Tera spec, and technology package, did have keyless open and lock, as well as keyless start. 😉

  21. @DenOfEarth @vinc New solutions are happening at a steady pace. This wouldn’t charge an EV, but we bought this LiFePO4 (lithium phosphate) backup battery that will power up to 600W for under $300, adding a 120W portable solar panel for almost as much.

    👉 x2 x a/c outlets
    👉 100W USB-C power delivery
    👉 x2 5V USB-A
    👉 12V/10A DC car outlet

👉 15W wireless phone charging pad on top

  22. @DenOfEarth Here’s a great read about the BMW i3 story. So much of the user testimony is quite Intriguing, including the unexpected performance and handling described by some.

The #Bloomberg story should be readable without a paywall using any of the iOS, iPadOS and MacOS stocks & market news app. Possibly also their Android or Windows etc. equivalents.

  23. @DenOfEarth @Basmitharts I don’t know that I’d have a use for an Ami, although I applaud the concept, in the spirit of the ⛽️ powered Voiture Sans Permis (VSP) in France.

The Oli is an amazing concept. I’d love to try one of those out (it’s only a concept car for now, if I’m not mistaken).

As for Gattaca, I’m going to have to admit that I don’t know what that is… 😱

  24. @vinc @DenOfEarth a backup battery is what I was going to suggest too.

From what I’ve read, you can ONLY have power from a solar installation during an outage IF you have a backup battery and some sort of switch that allows you to disconnect from the network.

Otherwise, your solar power could feed power back into the network and endanger crews working on the line.

  25. @ajpbradley @DenOfEarth I don’t think I’ve ever tried TH. 🤔

🇺🇸 coffee used to be dirty dishwater warmed up (coffee pots of nondescript origin left on for too long, and made too weak). #Starbucks changed all that over the years. #PeetsCoffee is much better than Starbucks, but they’re not nearly as easy to find — there isn’t one close to me, even though I have 2 Starbucks within a short walking distance and 2 more within a very short drive.

  26. @BitchinRob @DenOfEarth @Basmitharts @ajpbradley It’s the blue smoke and oil burning that I notice mostly in the myriad collectors’ cars around my neighborhood. That smell always makes me feel nauseous. Memories of a misspent childhood or something, and switchbacks in the Alps… 🤷‍♂️

    I’ve only ridden as a passenger in a #Citroën #TractionAvant once.

  28. @SteveInVentura @vinc @DenOfEarth I just noticed from linking to that article that:

“BMW sold more EVs in 2024 than Audi and Mercedes-Benz combined”

I don’t think it will matter to me if the design is shared. What will matter is how much they improve their battery technology, as promised, and driving dynamics.

  29. @John @dan @DenOfEarth @ZeKik @MarSolRivas I’d never encountered Robertson square heads before the #Roadtrek
    I find they are brilliant
Even when well corroded (the head will snap off before it strips the head) and it’s so easy to hold the screw on the driver to position and line up the screw one handed 👍
