  1. @thomasfuchs One day the Compact Floppy Disks / CF-2 will rise again. Mark my words! And as an adapter, hell, you could fit a CF card in there.

(I bought one of these drives and used it as D2 on a used Apple IIe I grabbed from the local newspaper classifieds back in 1987 or so -- only ever had four blank disks, so it didn't get a lot of use. Was novel, though, especially here in the states.)

UPDATE: Oh, I wrote a blog post about this a few years back:

Honestly I learnt every #tech skills of mine because of the #passion. Sooner or later we get these #short #term and #long term #purpose.
But if someone's going for #AI #coding for the sake of #Job / #Career might not #sustain if things get hard. That's why I #suggest people to #learn #organically developing their mind #map through #logics.
I use AI for understanding the #documentation and #debugging purposes not for a entire #mental #model.
    I do it for #education not #production.

The Apple Liquid Glass debate is reminiscent of Windows Vista, which also had semi-transparent chrome on its windows and dialog boxes in 2008.

The new generation of Apple designers didn't learn from the old generation's Windows mistakes, I guess.

Or maybe we don't see Apple's vision, yet. Should we listen harder and look harder?

Both administrations' #COVID policy & messaging has been predicated on the assumption that elderly & disabled people will not be missed.
    Thanks, #ChamberOfCommerce 🤬🤑🤬

It breaks my heart to see members of vulnerable demographics unmasked in public places bc they've been told it's 'over'

At least 4 sick in my parish in the last month 💔😟

    It's a giant #eugenics experiment ☠
    😷 I'm opting out 😷

  9. @thomasfuchs let’s hope they don’t continue with those Fuji bodies and sensors like the QuickTake 200. Those combined ugliness with profoundly terrible sensors. Maybe they’ll rebadge the Canon Elph S100 this time!

(The original QT were stunning for their era, and beautifully designed. The 200 series was the equivalent of rebadging HP inkjets as Apple ImageWriters. Definitely products from the era of Apple’s fiscal and management nadir.)

  10. @thomasfuchs it’s incredible that after two full days of planning Twitter Blue verification in Musk’s head, it only lasted two days. #inconceivable

The #Fugly #CyberTruck is really just a test to weed out the #LeonSkum fanboys from the rest of us.

Its a #Koolaid test. Or the admisson fee for the #Cult

Love the weird #Ugly truck and refuse to call out what an #eyesore it is and you are a #TrueBeliever

  13. @thomasfuchs The #FirstHardDrive I coveted, IIRC, was 3 megabytes for $5K (maybe 5MB for $3K) for an #Atari800 in the very early #1980s. Hard to imagine in this day of $10 32GB microsd cards and 8GB #RaspberryPi #SBCs

I'm a big fan of small telescopes and what can be done with them. What you've done with your Messier 16 photo is FANTASTIC.

I'm just not well set up for star photography, but I've done some #lunar and #planetary photography with small instruments.

The following photo of #jupiter was taken with an unmotorized #60mm refractor. The #yorick stacking software combined about 60 frames for the image. This was taken in 2010 when the SEB did one of its disappearing acts.

  15. @thomasfuchs @robert Hope he either takes it into the side of the mountain or into a tailspin & bails so someone w/ morals & money buy can buy it for a birdsong.

Keeping both accounts.I won’t abandon a working platform to racist & anti democracy bots & I’m still holding out hope for the second scenario or us using the advertisers to slap enough decency out of his hide to make it function as it should.

I’m musk #Ratified and it only cost me half a wheel of cheese😉

  16. @thomasfuchs As @Revertron mentioned #AI #tokens I had a quick read learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sema. My new theory is, most #GPT models & #Google wouldn't tokenize letters because of the high #tokenisation cost, basically sacrificing quality for ROI until they find a cheaper way to accelerate #climatebreakdown, deploying millions of energy-hungry servers emitting a country's #carbonbudget to answer mindnumbly dumb questions, or strengthen billionaire hegemony (complementary goals).
