Wracając do mojego filmu z setupem degoogle / deapple – chciałbym napisać o nim coś więcej.
Nazywam to „pragmatycznym puryzmem”.
Z czego korzystam:
Przeglądarka daily: Quiche Browser, a jako dodatkowa Brave
Wyszukiwarka: Qwant (europejska, bez śledzenia)
DNS i blokowanie: NextDNS z listą HaGeZi Pro++ i kilkoma własnymi domenami (np. Facebook)
Menedżer haseł: Bitwarden
2FA: 2FAS
Poczta i kalendarz: Tuta Mail
Aliasy e-mail: Addy.io
Chmura na pliki: Filen
Zdjęcia: Ente Photos
Notatki: Notesnook
Mapy: CoMaps (fork Organic Maps, OpenStreetMap)
Pogoda: OSS Weather
AI do prostych rzeczy: Duck.ai, do obliczeń i kodowania (bez danych osobowych) DeepSeek

Why we need more Zero-knowledge tools?
[Part 1 of 2]
Zero-knowledge tools (often called zero-knowledge encryption or zero-knowledge architecture services) are privacy-focused apps and platforms where the service provider has zero knowledge of the actual data. Even if they are subpoenaed, hacked, or compelled by authorities (relevant in India under DPDP [1] or other laws), they literally cannot access or hand over your readable content. This goes beyond basic End-to-End Encryption (E2EE). E2EE protects data in transit between users, but the provider might still hold keys or access metadata. Zero-knowledge ensures the provider is completely blind to the content [2].
Popular zero-knowledge tools are Proton mail, Tuta mail, Standard Notes, Notesnook, Proton Drive, Bitwarden, Filen.io, Simplex Chat, Threema (banned in India since May 2023) etc.
WhatsApp, with fully visible metadata to Meta, Gmail, Outlook, Telegram and Arattai are not zero knowledge tools. WhatsApp heavily advertise their E2EE features as sufficient for privacy, often misleading Indian users into believing basic E2EE equals full protection while downplaying metadata risks and provider access.
Signal prioritizes usable, strong E2EE with excellent metadata protection over pure zero-knowledge. It's "privacy by design + policy," is not absolute zero-knowledge. Many experts still call it the gold standard for messaging.
In India lack of awareness, network affect, convenience, habit, and zero cost keep WhatsApp, Gmail, and Google Drive dominant. Zero-knowledge tools offer stronger privacy but demand more effort and paid subscriptions or one time fee for comfortable and carefree usage in a price-sensitive market like India. This limits mass adoption and keeps strong privacy tools largely confined to tech-savvy or high-risk users.

I'm once again looking for a read-it-later/article archive tool. I think I've tried them all by now and I'm amazed that for such a basic task there's no good solution. I think my demands are very reasonable:
– article content extraction (not just bookmarks) and comfortable reader
– full text search over the entire archive
– website and Android app with synchronization between them
– not a whole lot of random unrelated features like todo lists or whatever thrown in for no reasonI was using Pocket for many years and even paid for the "premium" (which basically got me a few extra fonts because the "premium" features like tag suggestions didn't work), however Pocket got worse and worse at article extraction, to the point where it just opened to website instead of showing the extracted text for more than half of the saved articles. Also no one seems to actively work on it it seems. Pretty much the same problems with Instapaper. I tried Feedly and Inoreader which kinda works I guess but they're primarily RSS readers, which I don't need. raindrop.io does extract article texts but shows them only in the Android app, in a browser it'll still open the website, also the full text search doesn't work reliability. Then there's Wallabag but that seems very Alpha and I don't want to host the service myself. Tried a bunch more which I can't remember right now.
As a temporary solution I'm now saving articles to @notesnook since I'm using that for notes anyway. Article extraction works alright but there's no way to archive notes, so it's all cluttered with articles now and I can barely find my own notes anymore.
If anyone knows of a tool that reliably does all the things mentioned above, please let me know!

¡Mil gracias! -
Being #ADHD, I collect note taking apps. My favorite was Evernote, but as with all good things tech, it eventually went downhill. The phone app crashed constantly, they limited the number of devices..it just sucked.
I used Google Keep, OneNote, Simplenote, and could not get my head around Notion. Recently, I found a thread on #beehaw looking for a OneNote replacement. One of the suggestions was #Notesnook.
Holy sheet! It's Evernote, but better! E2E encryption, zero knowledge policy great phone app.....
I. SO. HAPPY.

Krótko mówiąc: do notatek TAK, do zadań NIEkoniecznie.

I completely switched from OneNote to @joplinapp (self-hosted) last year.
I'm so happy with the change. Simple yet effective.I also tried Notesnook for a while but didn't keep it. It's quite good however.

One good example is Notesnook which is a nice product and worth using. I broadly understand that if a user opts for pro version and then gets downgraded to basic (free) tier due to non-payment, existing data that is specific for pro version (e.g. attachments, images, full page and selection based clips, tags etc.), in Notesnook, will be retained and made accessible to the user. I still do not gave clarity whether existing data in private vault is retained and made accessible. Also, what will happen to recurring reminders of Notesnook pro, after getting downgraded to basic (free), is also not clear to me.
The massive 80% discount to Indian customers is also scary to me. I guess that the 80% discount is only for the first year. What can happen to the pricing during subsequent years?

@verge I have been using Notesnook for a while now. I used the free trial version (limited number of notebooks and notes) and liked it enough to subscribe. It's open source and end-to-end encrypted.
It's like Evernote, though I find it easier to use than Evernote.

And I cleaned out my ancient Joplin copies (local and cloud). I wonder if Notesnook has anything. 🤞

Next Step #did und nächstes Level erreicht. Google-Notizen sind gelöscht und in #notesnook gelandet. Hatte immer ein unwohles Gefühl meine Ideen da reinzutippen. Kommt einem kleinen Freiheitsgefühl sehr nahe...

@ueb_team161 Is it relevant that it have collaboration functions like Goodnotes has?
In any case, #Joplin is a very popular, self-hostable software. Personally, I opted for #Notesnook https://notesnook.com/about/

Trying out Notesnook (weird name) and it's looking pretty great. Open source browser based encrypted notetaking app. It's got word count! Looks nice. Has a good right-click menu of features. Markdown AND rich text! Free version doesn't allow images and has severe tagging limitations (only 5?? seriously??). They say they are making a self hosted version. Anyone using this? Know anything about it?
