#Hovenweep NM is a unique place, so peaceful and isolated even at the main ruins. I've always had the other areas all to myself, so few visitors.

We have poison dart frogs (and Panamanian Golden Frogs) at #SenecaParkZoo, but I never knew that was how they produced their neurotoxins. I'll have to grab some pics with my fancy new macro lens.

I worked as staff in an academic library and year by year since 2000 I saw firsthand general critical thinking skills decreasing. More and more book smarts, rote smarts, but less and less on-the-fly smarts is the best way I can explain it. They weren't dumber, even smarter in specialized areas, and that seemed to be the problem. Not enough general humanities education to develop empathy or understanding when things didn't go their way.

Indeed, the Hovenweep ravens love that high wall perch on the Castle ruin. I waited patiently to catch a shadow too, while enjoying their cawing.

@elaterite @CWilbur My first wild encounter was back in 1971 on the east side of Mt Hamilton (bay area), where one literally leapt across the highway in front of me on my motorcycle. Weirdly, it was jet black. Since then I’ve had one walk right thru my campsite in Sequoia, and been stalked by a female just outside Morgan Hill on the bike path. That one was the scariest, and in plain sight of 101 freeway no less! #cougarsightings #cougar
