Commercial cloud computing providers #CCCP is #RentierCapitalism par excellence. It isn't even a novel concept in the history of computing. And ONLY in late-stage (hopefully) capitalism could consumption be linguistically akin to #Democratization.

Had my social media self-description certified this evening at a #CIUK networking event. A polite undergrad, presumably here for the Student Cluster Competition, wanted to speak to me about my "PC to #HPC" talk earlier that day.
I did not give a talk today.
So yes, I am that middle aged white guy you know that works on computers. You can never remember his name, but you know it's one of 7 extremely white dude ones from the '80s.

@drmorr just learning. My SysAdmin work regularly sits at the intersection of middleware tech-stacks, so trying to understand what's going on. Most of my time is in batch compute ( #Slurm , #HTCondor ). But I keep hearing #CloudNative will eat the world, so am curious if it can properly what the tools I already use can do. 🤨

@fclc @abarker Or maybe without cheap interest rates making borrowing for monopoly efforts near free, it becomes a lot harder to justify expenditure on at this scale on a pipedream to #Automate #AllTheThings. So we should stop.
