  3. CW: re: my wish for year 2024

@uncomfyhalomacro So, as someone who does a lot of interviews for devs, I have some advice if you want it.

Start doing some volunteer code work in a FOSS project, and maintain a public github/bitbucket with your code projects.

The very FIRST thing I do when looking at a resume is look to see if the person has anything they wrote up in github, I can tell a LOT from looking at their code. I can guage ability, dedication, and rough adherence to good code practices, I can tell about how good of a learning base you have as a programmer, etc.

Most other people in my position will do the same, and TBH, we are the folks you'd be working with because we are the team leads and the system engineers running the various groups in IT. You want a coding position? Start there, make it easy for us. It will also lead into some interesting interview questions like "What started you working for FOSS Project?"

  4. @uncomfyhalomacro I've installed #sioyek some time ago, ran it twice or so and returned to #zathura. For my needs, there was nothing that I could not do with Zathura; plus Zathura opens non-PDF files (comic book, djvu, ps) and printing is built-in and does not require manual tweaking in the config file.

  16. being able to update a package by opening a submit request in #opensusebuildservice is one of the reasons why I like #opensuse. other distros such as #archlinux, you have to wait for the maintainer to update it themselves. good thing other distros such as #nixos and #voidlinux let's you open a PR on their github repos for their packages.

dunno but in #opensusebuildservice, i noticed that compiling rust projects uses a huge amount of memory that most of them, I have to add a _constraints file just to build them successfully on some architectures. :dragnsad:
