From certain values of better, it appears humans have indeed done better.
What's less clear are the qualities and quantities of deculturalisation needed before "we" could get out of the current paradigm.

exactly
they are parasites
their continued existence depends upon continued violence
when #hamas mass murders, netanyahu wins
when #netanyahu mass murders, hamas wins
caught between the parasites are regular #palestinians #israelis #lebanese. who want to live in peace but are murdered to grow religious, tribal, and extremist madness, and #geopolitical agendas feed the carnage
innocents in the #levant are murdered for the goals of #theofascism and #ethnofascism

yup
#theofascism and #ethnofascism unfortunately works
it reduces us to #violence, with violence
and that rewards the #fascism
sucking us all into the vortex of #hate and response after response to the response after response to the response to the response, endlessly
the violence just has to be stopped with a #twostatesolution

This seems like a big deal.
I would consider reading it, were I you.

Primary voting starts today.
If you think the Legislature should do better by Texas children, you have the opportunity to send a message. Vote to wipe out the #fascistGOP and take the state government away from the Epstein Class of right wing perverts.
-
Today is the first day of early voting in #Texas For the first time in decades, every #election has a #Democrat on the ballot.
Texans, we have the opportunity to wipe out the #fascistGOP
We also have the opportunity to move the party left. Make sure you choose Democrats carefully. There is more than one whose positions appear to be Republican-lite. Don't be fooled. Read up and vote. The League of Women Voters has good material to read.

It's interesting how so many small accounts are so diligent about #AltText and how some large accounts seem to care so little. If you have a large following, be a good example. It's not hard. There is OCR available if you're posting screenshots.
Let's all be better.

I'd like to encourage everyone to use the alt-text when you post images. Because it's the right thing to do.
I also encourage everyone to read the alt-text. You may be surprised to find out how much more context you get. Some users really go hard.
I really hope this doesn't read like scolding. It's meant to be encouraging. And I promise not to get started on camel case for tags.
Sorry, that was cheating a bit.

For anyone who is shocked that the Republican group chat that was released is full of evil people saying evil shit; good morning. Glad to see you're awake finally.

So, I've been traveling on business for a week and I'm back in my home office. After digging through an enormous pile of unread email, I finally found last week's essay from A.R. Moxon, @JuliusGoat in which Moxon takes a comically large metaphorical hammer to Ezra Klein. I was reminded of Roger Rabbit or perhaps Animaniacs. A written de-pantsing that was completely deserved.
Read it for yourself. It's not on substack.

The best outcome would be for him to flop over dead right in the middle of some sort of formal occasion with plenty of cameras rolling.

Ok, actually just high AF right now. Impeachment, conviction and now, removal. The convicted party will probably object. Um, optimistically, the people who swear to uphold the Constitution insist that the former President leave the premises. The VP is sworn in. There is a Democratic majority in Congress that does not have the power to overturn a veto.
Here’s my question. What’s next?

Super crazy optimistic. The House majority, after negotiations, agrees on a particular set of charges. The minority opposes loudly, but the impeachment bill passes, nonetheless. It moves to a trial in the Senate. Is there a filibuster? Optimistically assuming the new Senate rules eliminate the filibuster, you need 51 votes for a conviction. Again, how many Senate votes will drop off as the flood gates of money open?

Again, so very optimistic and unrealistic. Impeachment is most certainly warranted. Do you charge him with the big questions, like violating the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution? Should you prosecute a particularly corrupt, Article 2, Section 4 act like bribery, that is clear and easily understood? Are there enough votes to account for those that will drop out due to fear, greed or ambition?

I’m feeling dreamily optimistic in the USA this morning. Let’s assume that, in 2026, there are elections. Previously, for many years past, these elections have been subject to rigging and cheating and that’s all baked into the outcomes. So, in this imaginary election, the party that is not currently in the majority becomes the majority, in both House and Senate. What does that party do with the majority?

I think it's total bullshit that Souter is being praised as being somehow "left."
Even in the oft-cited Planned Parenthood vs Casey, his decision gutted women's rights to abortion. It upheld Roe in name only. From the wiki: "Souter considered upholding all the restrictions but was uneasy about overturning Roe. After consulting with O'Connor, the three ... developed a joint opinion that *upheld all the restrictions* in Casey except the mandatory notification of a husband "

Me: Wow, my workday was brutal and I'm beat.
Wife: I've been sick all afternoon.
Me: No worries we'll get a pizza. [looks at today's date]
Me: We're not buying pizza today. I'll start dinner. [sigh]

I read an interesting story from Dropsite that I'm not going to link because it's on Substack. But it was a deeper dive into the LA Fire Dept budgeting over the last few years.
I'll just say that decisions were made that look pretty stupid today in light of the destruction of entire sections of the city.
But what strikes me is the difference between the discussions of fire dept budgets vs police dept budgets.
We have a priorities problem in the USA.

OK, I just read a thread that had roughly 3x more discussion than likes or boosts. It was among folks who are UX designers.
I know nothing about UX design and yet, I enjoyed the entire thread.
Just saying, I really love it here.

Trump appointed a sleazy criminal as Ambassador to France. It's a straight up insult.
I hope that, at State dinners, France seats him between North Korea and Syria at the end of a long table that gets served last.
They should forget his name all the time. Make him wait for police escorts. Quietly laugh with each other as he passes.
I hope they treat him like the insult he is.
Yes, I am this petty.

I think something that is getting lost in all the noise around Joe Biden's statement is the fact that Republicans actually are garbage.
