It is dawning on me that not every country knows the joy that is the (Christmas) Tractor Lights Parade. There is an endless stream of farmers dressing up their nicest tractor for an evening ride.

Pretty happy with how this came out. Might specialize in reinforced concrete ruins just for funsies…

Hollyhocks reign supreme these days! We don’t have as many as we used to, but they’re still pretty

And so we see how history is forgotten... 36 years since the events known in the West as "Tian'anmen" took place. A little over one generation, and there is barely any mention of it.
Listen to this podcast from last year (I think this year's edition may be coming yet, Chris is in a later timezone) to rembember: https://thehistoryofchina.wordpress.com/2024/06/18/special-tiananmen-square-the-declassified-history-06-01-1999-w-postscript-2024/

#2025Harvest continues! Today we bring you a fine selection of strawberries. From top to bottom: the little wildlings, a smaller homegrown cultivated one, and a massive commercial one. All are very tasty. Enjoy them while the season lasts!

Harvesting from your own garden is fun, even if it’s only a few bites at a time!
Cucumber and homegrown radish salad, homegrown spicy leaf mix (not spicy) and radish leaves pictured here. Supplementing the ratatouille, couscous and feta.

When the orchestra makes the walls of the concert hall reverberate so you feel it in your seat, but then weaves the most spellbinding gossamer web of an ending with strings, you know it’s the #BerlinPhil with Mahler 9 in the Henri Leboeuf Hall at Bozar in #Brussels

Apparently the government recommends having enough supplies in the house for 72hrs, in Belgium 🇧🇪
I think we’re covered. Belgian style of course

You know you’re a car-share driver with a company that has reasonable sized fleet of vehicles when you find yourself googling “proace Toyota reverse gear”
Who put it there? Honestly, who??
Good thing I did not have to backnout anywhere in Brussels 😅

I love my little desk setup at home: space for my cute pen case, Hobonichi journal, fake grass pen stand, a cup of tea (with our Libraries Without Borders logo), Herbin ink and pencil sharpener 😻
Ray of sunshine optional 🌞
Makes you want to work, doesn’t it?

Tonight I ran a 10K distance for fun, and for tempo training. I turned it into my personal race to make up for the 10k 2 weeks ago that was short. And now I have my 3rd fastest ever time on the distance 😊 (Thanks to #Fetcheveryone log details!)
I think training is going well, so chip in for my fundraiser where I run a marathon and you donate money, and together we beat cancer!

47 days to go!
After yesterday's 18miler, I hopped out this evening for a "quick, gentle run". You know you're getting in marathon shape when it feels easy to jog 4 miles within the right heart rate zone the day after a long one! (Or it means I should work harder on my long runs? :think_bread: )
I'll be sharing my donate link on the regular, so donate and then mute me if you've had enough of it 😆

Raise your hand if you love Meera Sodha’s recipes!
I’ve been cooking from her Feesh India book for a month or two now and not a single bad recipe, and we finally have fun twists on our regular veggies.

CW: Lunch break and work conditions
Today our big boss announces he’s cancelled the weekly team meeting (11am-12pm) 2 weeks from now, so we can instead attend the (mandatory) training for some new software.
Somebody raises their hand: “I notice the training runs until 1pm. When do we get to eat? We can bring our lunch, can’t we?”
Nobody takes away the lunch break from workers at an NGO with French origin, I tell you 🙌
Don't remember this happening in a US context :eeveecoffee:

I sent out 2 job applications, wrote 2 blog posts, set up a new site, and ran all my planned runs.
We went on a day trip and I cooked food for mum twice. I helped to sort out the tripped electrics when the water hit our basement.
I did not progress as much as I planned/hoped/should on a chapter, and didn’t touch my drawing, but see water situation. Historic floods take their toll somewhere. So do hospital appointments with inconclusive diagnoses.
All in all not a bad week. #WeeklyReflection

More adventures in water today! Woke up to a cold house with part of the electricity gone. Isolated the faulty circuit, situation stable so we went for our planned (dry!) day trip.
Came back to dark and cold house, fidgeted a lot to isolate two faulty circuits (on two separate boards). Back to heating, light and stove top.
Water levels down a little bit, but not in our basement 😬
View from Bruges, not the misbehaving Dender!

It’s hard to hear people say we should move or that we chose this ourselves. Some of this situation is the result of decades of mismanagement and incorrect understanding of how water behaves; some of it the result of changing weather patterns (aka climate change). Some people built here without knowing or understanding the risks.
In short: stuff is complex, people are emotional, and water is pretty, you can’t do without, and it’s dangerous.

There is already a ton of critique building on the delays with refurbishing the locks and weirs on the Dender.
We’re also have an abnormal amount of rain on oversaturated soil, flooding is to be expected.
And we live in the area where in the 50s-60s people came ice skating, these were the natural holding basins and flood plains of the river. Building came with risks, risks that intensified as the rain patterns changed.
