@thatmarkgilroy If you are referring to the #geektree I've been gifted Hallmark geek ornaments for decades. Eventually it overtook an entire tree.

It’s been… a lot longer than I’d care to admit since I was last in behind a radio mic. But for the purposes of our current show? That’s where you’ll find me.
I’ll be playing Grant Mazzy in the stage version of Tony Burgess’ Pontypool, at the Loft Theatre Studio in Leamington Spa, between April 21st and 25th, directed by Hannah Brown.
A dark and claustrophobic horror tale, set in a remote Ontario town. This clever and disturbing play features a cast of 4 live performers, and a host of others providing voices, prerecorded interviews, jingles and more. It’s a show we’ve wanted to put on for a long time, and have followed on stage, screen and in other mediums.
It’s a limited run, and we can only take 50 people a night. So if you’re interested in something a little different to brighten (darken?) up your April? Check out the link below and book your ticket.

Growing up we were always a Cadbury’s family. My grandfather worked over at the factory in Bournville, we had access to the factory store.
Easter eggs as a kid inevitably came primarily from them.
I don’t eat a *huge* amount of chocolate today for comparison, but was Cadbury’s chocolate *always* this sweet?
Seriously. I’ve got a Cadbury’s Easter Egg here. (I remember these coming in two halves as a kid, not melded together as a single shape, but, whatever). Approaching this as an adult, the overwhelming flavour I’m getting here is not chocolate.
It’s just sugar. An aftertaste of sugar.
Was this always the case?
Has my sense of taste just *changed* over the years?
Has the general recipe of Cadbury’s chocolate changed?
I don’t know. But this is disappointing sickly.

Well, quite enjoyed Doctor Who.
Not exactly subtle in some of its messaging. But I enjoyed it.
Also interested in seeing more of this Doctor and companion pairing.
Here’s hoping for good things. Glad to see it back.

Two of Netflix’ current Top 10 TV Programmes in the UK Today are two separate ‘Fireplace for your Home’ screensaver videos.
Welcome to #ChristmasWeek , folks. Buckle up, put your feet up next to the (fake) fire.

Well this is sad news. Artist, writer and editor Paul Neary has passed away. I don’t think it can be understated how actively involved Neary was with shaping the careers of many people involved in British comics. Editor-in-Chief at Marvel UK during the expansion of the early 90s, and an artist in his own right. A definite loss.

Happy New Year, all.
No predictions. No promises. No resolutions.
Let’s just not be dicks to one another, yeah? That’d make a massive difference.

I don’t know how many people we *thought* we were buying cheese for. But it’s definitely disproportionate to the two of us. #ChristmasWeek
-
Merry twixtmas.
May the fates allow you to remember what day of the week it *actually* is, but only if you foolishly agreed to do something on a specific day this week.
For the rest of you? Settle in. Everything is just ‘Christmas’ this week. Want to do nothing but eat cheese? Go ahead. It’s Christmas.
Want start drinking at 10:00 am? That’s fine! It’s Christmas. Have at it.
Those leftovers? In a barely assembled ‘sandwich’? At 2 am? It’s Christmas! So be it!

“Mark Buckingham is free to do his version of Fables (and I dearly hope he does). Steve Leialoha is free to do his version of Fables (which I’d love to see). And so on. You don’t have to get my permission (but you might get my blessing, depending on your plans). You don’t have to get DC’s permission, or the permission of anyone else. You never signed the same agreements I did with DC Comics”.
I’d love to see both. Hope they take that up.

It is important to remember that many of DC Vertigo’s original lineup of comics *were* creator-owned (Preacher, Fables, Y: The Last Man) and while the leadership (and ownership) of the imprint has changed a lot since then those agreements absolutely should be honoured.
If they aren’t then (as Willingham points out) legal action is both costly and time consuming. Time at 67 he doesn’t feel he has to spare. Fair play to him.

One thing in particular I learned from this: It doesn’t sound like Willingham was told about DC licensing Fables to Telltale Games for The Wolf Among Us. While that game may have received positive responses, with Fables being creator owned there is no way that should have been allowed to happen.

Well this is kind of incredible. Bill Willingham, creator and owner of Fables (the multi award winning DC Vertigo comics series) has put the IP out into the public domain.
Details below.

Morning, Mastodon.
We’re still slightly too early to assess if it is a ‘Good’ one, yet.

Americans will never quite understand how odd it is for us Brits to see Nicholas Lyndhurst on a Frasier set.
It’s like Hugh Laurie on House all over again.
Lyndhurst is best known for playing Rodney Trotter in long-running British sitcom Only Fools and Horses between 1981 and 2003.
I’m struggling to think of any kind of comparable example from American TV.

That and, you know, this is a universe in which you could just as easily MAGIC YOURSELF CLEAN.
But where’s the product placement in that?
-
I dunno. I just find it a bit random that we are fleshing out a timeline for a fantasy universe which marks in place that in 7 centuries time they will invent the roll-on deodorant, when this is a universe which also has literal frickin *magic* in it.
Quite aside from the fact that this advent will be branded by Old Spice, we are apparently celebrating this invention ahead of the invention of say water pipes, plumbing or basic sanitation.

It’s like people who rant about the authenticity of weapons in Game of Thrones. Or how the Nords of Skyrim don’t wear authenticly Viking armour.
That’s comparing apples to oranges. Authentic to what? How do you know?
Why mention Vikings? There are no Vikings in Skyrim. Because Vikings were real and Skyrim is not…

I am not discarding the notion that the general citizens of the Northern Realms may smell a little bit on the ripe side. Away from the wealth of court at the major cities very few seem to have much in the way of sanitation. Baths are quite big in The Witcher. But not an every day occurrence.
But arguing about realism in Fantasy properties is invariably a bit of a silly point.

I am tonight preoccupied by this advert. It’s been turning up on heavy rotation on my YouTube viewing of late.
Such a bizarre pairing, which raises so many questions.
The statement of specifically referencing ‘in 700 years time’ suggest a knowing nod and wink to the historical invention of deodorant. Yet The Witcher is not a historical piece. It’s fantasy.

The world of fiction has brought us many terrifying and disturbing visions from its raw and darkened heart.
But there are few things more truly horrifying than the sudden arrival of Riverdale musical episode.
The horror. The unmitigated auto tuned horror of it all…

On the positive I suppose that the mere usage of the name Threads will introduce a whole new generation to the horror of the post apocalyptic early 1980s BBC film of the same name: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threads_(1984_film)
