If only accounts could earn the awareness and distribution instead of buying it... This was our original discussion/direction when advocating for #SocialMedia growth. The intent was #Cluetrain, not #AdWeek

I started my first internet agency before ATT's banner ad debuted on @WIRED The point then, as now, is PEOPLE. But people do interact with orgs, it should just be on the people's terms, free of unwanted noise. #VRM

  2. Kinda funny that we’ve gone full circle. Used to be, in the olden days, you’d dial into your buddy’s BBS over 9600 baud modem dialup. Boop beep beep boop beep beep boop. You’re in! It’s a goldmine, filled with interesting discussions, the most niche possible, nothing like you could ever find in the mainstream flesh.

Then we went commercial. The ISPs, search engine portals, and big websites funneling people into massive groups of random amalgamation communities. No real cohesion or commonality, just a trough to feed from for ad monetization. Followed quickly with walled gardens of all sizes and shapes, and also questionable allegiances to community vs. commercial interest. Soon even these groups were torn asunder, and needed to find a way back…

And now here we are. Logging into our buddy’s federated instance with an AP protocol. At Toot toot toot at toot toot toot dot net. You’re in! It’s a goldmine, filled with interesting discussions, the most niche possible, nothing like you could ever find in the mainstream flesh.

  3. finally updated my blog to use the tailwind version of the #hugoblox theme for #gohugo…and I'm more than a little disappointed about how hard this was compared to the results I see. I honestly just prefer the old bootstrap version (now deprecated) since tailwind hugoblox is missing so many useful blocks, like the contact block, and I had to make a custom one which looks rather shitty imho.

so I guess this is my way of saying, here's my website but I hate it so don't look at it until I fix it up with something much better later, like 11ty or something.

  4. 🚨 You Had One Job — FutureCon Seattle 2025 🔐

In 2024, attackers didn’t need phishing emails. They waited for the next zero-day in your firewall. As Mandiant’s M-Trends 2025 shows, edge device exploits are now the top intrusion vector — and security vendors themselves are becoming the new initial access brokers (unintentionally, of course).

My talk at #FutureConSeattle was a no-BS reality check: 10 ways orgs are still failing at foundational security, and how to fix it — no buzzwords, no user-blaming, no new vendor required.

🛠️ Just configure what you already own, document it, and follow through. Because no one wants to explain how your security box got you owned.

    🇬🇧 1629 – King Charles I
    Dismissed Parliament. Ruled alone.
    Ignored the courts.
    ⚔️ Civil war broke out.
    🪓 He lost his head—literally. #RuleOfLaw #DefendTheConstitution

  14. 1/
When a president ignores a court, it’s not “being strong.”
    It’s how democracies die.
Here are 10 real times governments defied the courts—and what happened next.

Make no mistake: this is a test.
If these orders are allowed to stand, future presidents—of any party—could do the same.
Silence lawyers. Punish critics. Strip away civil liberties with the stroke of a pen.
    #DefendTheConstitution

  16. 7/
27 senior U.S. officials from both parties filed a brief opposing these actions.
They called them “unthinkable” and “ultra vires”—beyond the bounds of lawful authority.
The kind of thing they never imagined seeing in a democracy.

  17. 5/
In court, Trump’s lawyers argued the ban only applies to Congress—not the president.
This is radical and wrong. The executive can’t do what even Congress can’t do with his signature.
That would make the president a king. #DefendTheConstitution

  18. 4/
In fact, the only place in the Constitution where a power is banned twice is this one:

    “No Bill of Attainder…shall be passed.” (Art. I, Sec. 9 & 10)
The Framers knew the danger of letting any branch bypass the courts to punish citizens. #DefendTheConstitution

  19. 2/
These executive orders revoke security clearances, terminate federal contracts, and ban access to government buildings—without trial or due process.
They name people. They punish them.
That’s the definition of a bill of attainder.
And the Constitution forbids it. #DefendTheConstitution

  20. 1/
Trump is issuing executive orders that punish political enemies—by name.
Lawyers. Law firms. Even Chris Krebs, the cybersecurity official who defended the 2020 election.
This is illegal. This is authoritarian. And it’s happening right now.
    #DefendTheConstitution

  21. Trump is issuing illegal executive orders to punish his enemies—targeting lawyers by name, canceling contracts, and banning access to government buildings.
This is unconstitutional. It’s a bill of attainder in all but name.
Tell Congress: Stop this abuse of power.

  22. Funny how you wouldn’t even know the #HandsOff protests happened today if you only watched ABC News Live, CBS, NBC News Now, or Bloomberg.
    Not a peep.
Meanwhile, Fox’s NewsNOW showed Gaza protests, and BBC covered ours.

The movement’s gonna need to get louder, smarter, and way harder to ignore.

  23. Watched the Latvian #Flow last night with one of my children and that’s sure an example of a #SacredMovie. I can certainly see why it is nominated for an #AcademyAward for Best #AnimatedFilm. There is no dialogue in this #movie—it’s about a #cat and some other #animals of various sorts, who live in a timeline where their planet is flooded, humans are gone, and they have to cooperate in order to survive. While the characters are more than slightly #anthropomorphic, for the most part these are realistic depictions of how animals generally behave, which I felt was engaging and drove the narrative because you didn’t have such a hard time #SuspendingDisbelief. The encounters with the #MirroredSurfaces refer to the ability of animals to be #selfconscious, and the #floods and foreboding referred to #humanity’s demonstrated inability to #selfreflect or head off #disaster. There were a number of #MagicalRealism elements that I felt are not to be taken literally, but directly lend to the thematic intent, so as to provide for metaphorically demonstrating the sacred quality of #community, and the redemptive power of #sacrifice.

Stylistically the #animation reminded me of Waking Life with its rotoscoping technique, crossed with the cel shading like from Zelda Breath of the Wild. As the creatures traipsed through watery gorges of lush greenery and tried to catch colorful fish swimming through recently flooded tropical forests, I was struck by the regard the animators paid towards faithfully rendering the movement, structure, and dynamics of living things in this #film, and how that really communicates the #joy and #awe we feel when we regard the #beauty, and #terror, of #life in its full extant.

My child said she loved when they found out that “real #friendship is more important than fake #friends.”

Trump: No miracles, but plenty of fake achievements, conspiracy theories, and outright lies (30,573+ documented by fact-checkers). His followers treat him like a divine figure anyway. 🤡

  25. Today I am finishing setting up this #Proxmox VE and getting ready for it to host crafty.social, the community I am building on #Pixelfed for #crafters, #makers, and #artists, who are *done* with the ML slop and the authoritarian control of Meta properties. Crafty.social is currently running on my MacBook via Docker containers with the aid of a #Cloudflare tunnel, and Cloudflare R2 for storage, so the cutover to new hardware should be a breeze.
