Yup, me too. The other bit is that if you do go out and buy the new one instead, chances are it's not made anywhere near as good as the old one.

I bought one piece of new equipment 2 or 3 years ago (a shredder/mulcher), and the rated lifetime on its no-name Chinesium engine is ... 100 hours. Granted you only use it a few hours a year, but no manufacturer would have shipped such a piece of junk 30 years ago.

#edit: (falls was schief läuft) ergänzt

And if you have to use Paypal, always make purchases via a credit card attached to your account - not directly from a bank account attached to it.

At least if you're backing the transaction with a credit card, you can issue a #chargeback and have a chance from having Credit Card Company marginally on your side.

  5. Speaking of folding bikes, @xtaran passed along this question from @stereo4x4

Q6. Oh no, my 1970s #foldingbike seems to turn into a brake-in-half-bike soon.

Any recommendations? Just clean the area and MIG #weld it? Add some reinforcement?

  7. Todays #Repaircafe fix: A strobe flash alarm clock for deaf people: humantechnik-shop.com/Blitz-un

32kHz signal was there, rectangle signal to drive the mechanics ok, but no movement. Turns our the tiny copper wire was broken on a sharp corner. After disassembly, unwinding one loop and soldering it back on it works again.

  8. #prusa3d #CoreOneL experience so far:

    Good things:
+ works out of the box and creates nice results
+ PrusaConnect is super handy, just pushing new prints to the queue
+ webcam live stream is nice with VPN

    Neutral:
    * does not play well with APC SmartUPS: The selftest of the APC UPS leads to a short power interruption after power on, which leads to a printer restart and "power supply out of spec" error

Things I did not expect at that price point:
    - card board boxes with instructions are rotated, leading to upside down instructions from one layer to the next
    - Pursa Connect Android App does not work for me, shows no printers (but the web version works)
    - filtration unit holes to mount fan are not aligned, had to drill them bigger by 1mm
    - included USB stick leads to freezes and crashes of the printer, random old 8GB stick one works flawless
    - high flow nozzle clogged after approx 15hrs/1kg of included PLA

Would still buy again. Just my random thoughts after a few days of using it.

  9. Just in case anyone wants to build a #victronenergy #victron #vedirect galvanically isolated USB cable here are some pics to reproduce my cheap DIY cables.

  12. Just found my 2nd ever #MP3Player while checking/emptying "random old crap" boxes.

The first one was a 128MB unit that failed after an airplane flight to the UK after approx. 1/2 year of use.

This bad boy features a whopping 1GB of storage. At some point the battery compartment failed so I modded it to take a bigger AA battery. The USB cover features slots for a cable tie to route the headphone wires out of the pocket without a mess.

The soft touch paint turned into a horrible goo and collected a lot of dust.

This thing was in daily use for approx. 8 years.

Edit: just checked the online manual. No date, but it mentions Windows98SE. Do you remember installing drivers for USB mass storage devices? That was wild...

  13. Btw. #Creality SpacePi X4 temperature and humidity readings seem to be reasonable. I can confirm the small temperature gradient front to back, but as the filament surface cools quickly this would require precision thermal sensors to not get false readings from the open lid (hot air is blowing out at the back.

  18. Ok, lets see how this ~10 year old #3Dprinting #filament thats completely brittle (stored unsealed at room temp) comes back to life.

Looks like typical spool dimensions changed since 2017 so only one spool fits inside one chamber of the filament dryer.

  19. Looks like the #Renault #Scenic 2 is leaking oil.

I was able to confirm my gearbox reverse light switch repair and gearbox oil change are not the source of this (gearbox still full, lowest spot of the engine is just at the gearbox darin plug thats why the oil goes there).

Cleaned the accessible bottom part of the engine, found that the gaskets of the oil stick failed so ordered a new one and found out that the oil is actually coming right from the top of the engine. To access this part, a special nut and a new air inlet gasket are required. Waiting for those now...

According to some online sources, the screws that hold on the cover are not sealed/tend to leak around the screw head. So just removing one at a time, cleaning the surface and reassembling them with a bit of "gasket maker" could fix this. Cleaning is useful anyways to find out where exactly the oil comes from if this does not fix it.
