Overlooked member of The Situationist International. I remember her mentioned a few times in Knabb's SI Anthology. An interesting life & post-SI career.

What I suspect is a flint core, picked up at work yesterday. There is a vein of redness running through the grey, coinciding in part with a band of tiny glittering crystals on the broken surface. A camera phone really cannot do it justice, I'm afraid! I wonder if the red vein and crystals governed the choice to work the flint? #Geology #Flint #Archaeology #Prehistory #Lithics

A piece of sarsen debitage found at Stonehenge, 51 km away, came from a group of boulders at Bramdean, arranged in their current position by a Colonel Greenwood in the 19th century. Nevertheless the spot does seem to fall on some interesting alignments, including the one presented here. It takes in Hinton Ampner church, a crossroads on Gander Down, the length of the southern cloister that surrounds the Fromond Chantry at Winchester College, and St Michael's church nearby #sarsens #Stonehenge

Running deer in Rownest Wood, 10th February, 2012.
Brought to a standstill as 20-30 fallow deer swiftly crossed the road in front of me...
Seconds later, only three dark shapes can be discerned running through the woodland, to the left of the pair of trees in the foreground. The piano on the radio - possibly César Franck's Violin Sonata in A - seems to trace the urgent, fleet-footed rhythm of their departure, as the violin weaves in and out in flight.

Gratifying to see my essay cited in the new book, 'Timeless Joyce: A Hundred Years of Ulysses' by Asun Lopez-Varela Azcárate, 2023. A calligraphic masterpiece, an 11-inch high piece of parchment that contains the entire biblical Song of Songs in Hebrew micrography (written in tiny letters). It is signed by the Lithuanian artist/scribe, Baruch ben Shemaryah, 1794. It renders the entire Song of Songs as a work of art, in letters that are at once text and illumination. In 'One.Two.Three', Vincent Meessen revisits a neglected part of the history of the Situationist movement, prompted by the discovery, in the archives of the Belgian Situationist Raoul Vaneigem, of the lyrics to a protest song composed in May 1968 by Congolese Situationist Joseph Mbelolo Ya Mpiku. Working with Mbelolo and young musicians in Kinshasa, Vincent Meessen has produced a new rendition of the song. The 35 min film is part of this longer presentation. #Situationism
