It's the remains of one of eight Imperial Palaces built by/for Charlemagne/Karl der Große in the first quarter of the 9th century CE.You can't spit without hitting the remains of a medieval castle, palace, fortification, etc in much of Europe. People living in houses with thousand year old foundations is kinda the "norm" in many places in Europe.
Here's the Imperial Palace laid out over the modern town.

Funny how things work. I was very excited to watch the launch of Starship on its first orbital flight and was kind of disappointed when they scrubbed for today. (Better scrub than RUD, as I like to say.)
By dint of what am I disappointed? I had nothing to do with the creation of the rocket, it's built by a company run by a narcissist, and there's every chance it will come to nothing... yet there I am, glued to Youtube....
