At Berlin Buzzwords 2025, Evgeniya Sukhodolskaya presented miniCOIL—a novel approach to creating a sparse neural retrieval model. This model aims to combine the advantages of dense and lexical retrieval methods while avoiding their drawbacks. Evgeniya discussed how to design and train a lightweight model that performs well on out-of-domain data and demonstrated its capabilities.
