  8. SETI@home … Anfang 2000 gab es auch einen Mac-68k-Client, und so stapfte mein braver Mac SE/30 damit ausgestattet los, um Anomalien zu finden. Die erste WU war schnell per Ethernetkarte heruntergeladen, und das rechnen startete.

    Der 1989 als „Numbercruncher“ bekannt gewordene Würfelmac (68030 CPU, 68882 FPU, 16 MHz) gab alles, aber etwa 30 Minuten bevor die Work Unit „durch“ war, endete ihre Lebenszeit und wurde verworfen. Bitter für den kleinen Racker, aber nun gehörte er in der Wissenschaft offiziell zum alten Eisen.

    Eine Zeit lang hat dann ein Performa 475 Work Units bearbeitet, in einem Bruchteil der Zeit, auf einem 68040 bei 25 MHz.

    Der SE/30 durfte dann wieder Framemaker 3, ClarisWorks 3, Canvas 3.5.6 und MagiCMac ausführen.
