  1. @nomdeb If it can lead to an eventual #DemocraticSocialist #Revolution with as little pain and suffering as possible, I'm all for it.

  2. @nomdeb
I went to a Maker Faire in #Bogota #Colombia 2023 - it was great! Some highlights: Kids made a prototype motorized scooter for a classmate with a disability - Got to play with an infra-red camera - A physicist presented how solar panels work at the molecular level, and recent advances - community, new friends & connection! I recommend going!

I consider the fact that taxpayers ultimately pay the fine to be a feature… they need better feedback about the effect of their own actions

Voters* aren’t paying for their decisions at the moment #imho

*especially the people that choose not to vote

It irritates me to no end when any president claims to have a “mandate” when the majority of people did not vote for them

  4. @nomdeb I have a lot of fears because this #hospital has had 3 #covid #outbreaks before, we're surrounded by too many #unmasked people, coughing out who knows what into closed space air & I've already lost one parent due to covid hospital infection. That wasn't too long ago & my anxiety is extremely high right now.

  5. @nomdeb The leading German computer magazine ct did a series of articles about trialling #FarmBot.
The author tried to be enthusiastic about it - but those people are honest.
If you are interested in wasting massive ressources and time in a computer and mechanical engineering project, that might occasionally produce a lettuce, this is for you. Eventually, you'd even spend some time in the garden. Mostly it will be in the workshop and behind the screen.
This is a solution looking for a problem.

  6. @nomdeb Tipping, effectively busking, doesn't seem to work.

The solution I'm increasingly coming to is to utilise existing tollgates on the information flow. There are two which suggest themselves strongly: ISPs, and general taxes. This ends up looking much like either cable television or publicly-sponsored media.

Generally, charging for media requires some gateable venue. The classic case is asses in seats with a box office and controlled admissions. Online, the only really viable options for that are the ISP or some taxing authority. You end up with questions over how to allocate compensation, but at least you can collect revenue.

I'd most like to see this indexed at least roughly to income, such that high-income households, or at least neighbourhoods, pay commensurately for access, whilst low-income regions pay little or nothing.

The other options I've seen --- subscriptions, micropayments, tips, patronage, etc., all seem to either not work at all or have pretty hard upper bounds on participation.

    Bundling content into online services:

    • Preserves general access.
    • Compensates creators.
    • Permits independent venues rather than media monopolies.

There is the issue that this does create a tremendous power point at the service provider, and we already have huge concerns over such monopolies in multiple countries. I see that as a separate (though related) concern which can be addressed independently.

I'd really like to see discussion of this among the media types. I've not had success to date.

  8. @nomdeb @mamaofletters

You can be very proud of him! He did a great job. Time of year, those birds must be very hungry. You're both kind to offer food and water to them. 💕

  10. @DemocracyMattersALot The corruption and cowardice in this administration is staggering. I hope all who can be held to account will be. We must vote those who have the best interests of the American people into office, who can and WILL make this so. #USPol #NationOfLaws

  11. @petergleick The cost to us as both in terms of quality of human life and economically could take generations to repair, if ever. We MUST vote these Republican neanderthals out of public office. They've done so much damage already. More fool all those who cannot see this. :( #USPol #KillingScience #RepublicansOwnThis

  17. @wellborn.net Trump has been a failure his entire life. The only people who believe otherwise are as delusional as Trump himself. #USPol #RepublicansOwnThis #DeclineOfUSA

  18. @crispius What would be news would be anything that is NOT corruption with the Trump administration and its Republican and corporate enablers. #USPol

  19. Also, WTF does, "you'll be fine" mean? SHOW ME THE FUCKING NUMBERS!!!!!

  20. Also woe to the advisor who is sloppy with their input. When we first retired we hired someone who input Hubby's pension as mine. We asked about life insurance, and he said, "you'll be fine" but after I dug into the annual plan he provided to us I noted that he had applied the pension to me! We never did transfer our investments to his firm, and as soon as I noted the egregious input errors, we fired him.
