@nick_tune @tcoopman not sure how fun it is though 😀. I hope we will find out at the open space at #kandddinsky in 3 weeks 🤔. And I hope to find out what gleam programming is, too.

@nick_tune using Figma (or figjam, doesn't matter) for sticky notes is like using Excel for form letters or Word for accounting.
Figma is great for UI/UX not for sure it is the wrong tool for sticky notes.
Figjam which is sold as "FigJam - The Online Collaborative Whiteboard for Teams" is nothing like a wrapper around Figma. Bad UX!
Even #conceptboard is better than Figjam, and this means something if I say this.

@codeinabox @nick_tune thanks for the shout out. James is an amazing educator and the reason why I got into coffee as much as I did (and the rabbit hole is just keep getting deeper and deeper)
#Cofi contains some of the recipes from his channel thanks to him being generous enough to allow me to do so

During my talk about Bytesize Sessions at #gsas23 there were many good questions and I would like to answer them all. I will do that one post at a time , this is the first one https://www.roundcrisis.com/2023/10/11/Twenty-plus-questions-answered-about-bytesize-architecture-sessions/

So, in my experience, it's crucial to have a compelling vision that clearly demonstrates the business value of modernization, and guidance that enables teams and managers to translate the vision into concrete actions.
This was one of the topics that came up last night in a conversation with David Leitner and Thomas Pokorny. The recording will soon be available, including one of the best programmer jokes you will ever hear.

For leaders and architects it can sometimes be frustrating or bewildering when teams aren't as enthusiastic or committed to modernizing.
But teams doing the work are often already at 100%+ capacity with their backlog, bugs, support tickets, and other work.
Modernization might just feel like another thing that they don't have time for and adds to their stress…

Should you start an architecture modernization journey by building something completely new outside of your existing systems?
This can be effective as a way of demonstrating what's possible in your proposed "new world".
Faster time-to-market, better reliability, improved compliance, more efficient delivery etc.

If you feel that the quality of decisions or the lack of ability to make decisions is a problem for your organization, I'm sure that you'll get a lot of value from Sonya's talk. I recommend it to clients almost every week.

One of my go-to consultant questions this year has been "How do you make decisions?", "What is your decision-making process?" or something along those lines.
I'm trying to understand what it will take for big decisions to actually get made because often there's lots of talk and lots of ideas, but a lack of conviction making the big decisions and executing.

Today I had the honour of speaking at the Agile Serbia / RSG 2023 in Belgrade.
I would like to thank the organizers for inviting me and taking good care of me, and everyone who came to my session "Domain-Driven Design and Team Topologies for Product-led Organizations".
Slides: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Byk5ACbkLoCycNGmQaIdCro3oMY-MmPd/view?usp=sharing
This was my first trip to Belgrade and I only have positive feelings from all of the interactions I've had. I hope to return one day.

What an experience seeing Bjarte Bogsnes (Mr Beyond Budgeting) live in the flesh.
This Norwegian guy has got insane energy. And certainly knows his topic.
I actually got a cab with him in the morning and learned he did a talk in London yesterday and only arrived at the hotel at midnight last night.
If you get the chance, I definitely recommend watching one of his talks.

They told him they had no capacity so needed me to rebook. But the only way they could do that was by telling the system that I missed the appointment (that was in the future).
Keep this in mind when modernizing legacy systems. Don't just rewrite the old systems in new technology. Try to identify and address all the UX workarounds and missed edge cases (and features that are no longer being used).

What do desert islands and sharks have to do with monoliths and microservices?
You'll have to ask Anja Kunkel who explained all in her talk at @ama_conf , and gave us a free eye test using the back of her hoodie half way through the talk.
