  3. @SallyStrange @mzedp honestly? I get that’s it’s funny for hearing folks, but for D/deaf/Hard of Hearing folks who rely on captions, substituting different words for profanity is infantalizing and also confusing.

Otherwise I also liked the video

  4. Oh look, I've been ignoring a plentiful, edible food source in my garden! 🤔 "Land Shrimp!"

    Although.... 😱

"Let’s stick with Pillbugs for two good reasons. Those are the only ones that roll themselves into a ball, and they are the most edible of the lineup... "

  5. Here's an original traffic calming measure I saw in Madrid: Protected Peafowl wandering the streets.

They're large and slow and confident enough to wander in the middle of roads, and drivers know they'd get heavy fines for injuring them.

  19. "Weeks after scrubbing “renewable energy” from its name, the National Laboratory of the Rockies in Golden, formerly known as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, is also shedding workers."

This news feels like a gut punch.

The National Renewable Energy Lab has been an invaluable and irreplaceable resource for me during my career in renewable energy.

Their work has contributed to improving the quality and performance of wind, solar, batteries, EVs, transmission, and more.

I've relied on their Systems Advisor Model to simulate the performance of renewable energy projects, on their load models to design a microgrid in Africa, and on their various reports on technology to make better informed decisions.

I hope the workers laid off land on their feet and find some way to continue their invaluable contributions to the energy transition.

  20. Microphotographs of a broken solar cell showing the soldering spots between the bus-bars and the silver-paste fingers.

On the front side of the cell the silver paste fingers are much thinner, as the goal is to extract as much current while shading as little as possible.

On the rear the silver paste is spread much thicker.

I'm not sure about the exact scales here - maybe around 100um for the thinnest features. Will check once my micrometric scale gets here.

I just found this new free open source focus stacking project which looks interesting, will give it a try later -
