  1. CW: parallelism #rstats question

    @milesmcbain @alexpghayes @bricegreen

    Author of #Futureverse here:

    > i want the user in control of parallelism in a transparent way

    As others already pointed out, this is how futures work by design. The separation between developer and end-user is a key feature.

    Other frameworks, notably 'foreach' & somewhat 'parallel', had similar ideas, but never made it a requirement. I discuss this in the Introduction of the "future" paper (futureverse.org/publications.h)

  2. @milesmcbain "... the users are actually readers of the code rather than just runners ..." is a great way to put it!

    With the #academic #programming that's my job, I assume most everything will eventually contribute to a publication, and so be shared. The logic of the code needs to be apparent to others in the future (and hopefully useable); imo avoiding dependencies and sticking to the most stable codebase (#baseR #rstats, in my case) is worth the effort.

  3. @djnavarro @milesmcbain @yjunechoe yup! Thankfully I'm mostly employed as an package expert, but there's a fair amount of and mixed in. That's fine with me; those are definitely very repurpose-able skillsets!

    Late to the party - here's my setup; home is my office. The dual deck audio cassette drive and turntable are for gradually transferring my old audio recordings onto the NAS.
