@alexxkittle @breadandcircuses He has some good ones with #FattyArbuckle too.

Theodora Goes Wild (1936) - 2/4 - A snapshot of the media's relationship with art (here, the novel). While #IreneDunne brings plenty of comedy to the picture, #MelvynDouglas comes across as a lesser #WilliamPowell. The story is good enough, but something in its execution feels flat. Near the film's end, there is an example of #DialecticalMontage juxtaposing the women's literary club members with #cats. #Cinema of Cats has a good write-up of the felines in the film. https://cinemacats.com/theodora-goes-wild-1936/

@Cinemacabre I rate this one highly. As reboots go, it contextualizes the original premise for its time in a compelling way. Also, I want all the plants in this film, like that #StringOfPearls.

“Twentieth Century” (1934) 2/4 - It’s got all the right elements, but the telling causes this #CaroleLombard and #JohnBarrymore prototype #screwball comedy to drag. The scenes with #Lombard and #Barrymore trying to out-theatre the other are insanely fun even if #Barrymore feels like he is more acting than ‘reacting’. From a writing standpoint, it’s interesting to stack against #Hecht, #MacArthur, and #Hawks’s better known film, “His Girlfriend Friday” (4/4), which never fails to dazzle.

I spent a good portion of yesterday generating images of celebrities and kittens in the style of #EldenRing art. Below are the four I liked best: #PaulDano, #CardiB, #MollyRingwald and #Orko. I do realize Orko isn't a celebrity, and I should have probably posted these on #Caturday, but I am not convinced either of those two considerations actually matter.

@ezwal @pwr2dppl What was the book? Guessing it wasn't an #AEVanVogt.

"The Blue Dahlia" (1946) 2/4 - I imagine #AlanLadd and #VeronicaLake as two automatons in a Daft Punk show, but where their mechanicalness compliments the icy remove of "This Gun For Hire" (1942), the star-pairing here feels underdeveloped; that - somewhere - makes sense insofar as this is an original #RaymondChandler script. The standout performance belongs to #WilliamBendix, and it is his character’s subjective auditory experiences, related to PTSD, that feel uncommon for the period. #Noir

#PennedPossibilities 1013 — MC POV: Have you ever lived in another country / place besides where you were born? Would you want to?
Fenella: I have. I’ve lived in many places. I’ve actually traveled the world. In the end, I still found my way home to Moray, Scotland. To Alistair. To Dorcha Castle. I’d like to stay here now, if I’m given the chance.
Alistair: That’s my own business...
