@mgrass Cool! My spouse and I did very much the same recently on a vacation to #ManitoulinIsland. Real life can be very satisfying.

I'd like to leverage FBX' own material fields in #ProjectSpecialK and such, y'see? But those all have extra crap in them. Full paths and such.
Take the humble ground tile. Textures have a raw, absolute, and relative path. But all three are listed here as "D:\ACNH\textures and such\fldunit\mGrass_Mix.png"
That's no good.

Over the weekend, I wrote up an analysis of WSDOT's Amtrak Cascades Preliminary Service Development Plan that was released on Friday and what it means for Bellingham.

It's been curious (though maybe not surprising) that most news outlets and pundits have thus far politely sidestepped or ignored discussing how Biden manages his stutter in the context of the debate.
I've seen the phrase "gish gollop" used to describe Trump's strategy of attack during the debate. While every person who manages a stutter is different, I can speak from experience that responding to a gish gollop is especially challenging.

#stuttering -
As someone who (mostly) successfully manages a stutter to where most people don't notice, I sometimes get random texts and DMs from friends, acquaintances, and others when Biden's speech fluency is in the news.
My thoughts on the post-debate discourse from the past 24 hours ... [1/3]

I enjoyed chatting with WAMU's Elliot C. Williams about the early days of the now-defunct DCist, the local blog I helped launch with a bunch of volunteer bloggers back in 2004 that grew into a beloved local news site over the years.
“DCist was social media before social media,” I observed.

OK, we have 1 year to secure the DCist archives, and it seems like there's good momentum to make that happen.
I'm still dumbfounded that WAMU's leadership didn't foresee the public outcry and avoid the self-inflicted reputational damage.
-
A little bit of good news out of Washington, D.C., regarding the demise of DCist: It appears that WAMU's leadership unlocked public access to DCist's archives.
While that won't bring back a local news site that so many people loved, it's good to have access to DCist's archives again.
-
One additional note on the death of DCist: I'm heartened to read (via Washington City Paper) that the D.C. Public Library hopes to secure the DCist archives. There's a lot of history that needs to be preserved!

It's tough to watch parts of the internet fade away and die incrementally, especially when it involves something where you invested a lot of your time, energy, and creativity.
WAMU Public Radio announced it is shutting down D.C. area local news site @DCist, something I helped jumpstart as a volunteer-run group blog in 2004.
Some thoughts ...

@garland "You know, it's west of Broadway a few blocks but before I-5, you can't miss it."
I'm staying on First Hill this visit and the street names are all familiar from elsewhere nearby but the intersecting street grids in the vicinity of Union & Boylston are throwing me off. Then there's the issue of University and Seneca streets disappearing before Broadway, leading to discontinuity of the Jesus Christ Made Seattle Under Protest streets east of Broadway.

In Seattle, there's the time-honored geographic quandary: Is it on Pike or Pine?
https://youtu.be/o78v8EE7Ano?si=UHrx7r1vNV6S4tTo
But there should be a quiz variation: In the Pike-Pine Corridor, is it at Bellevue or Belmont?
Kizuki Ramen: Pike or Pine? Bellevue or Belmont?
Fogon Cocina: Pike or Pine? Bellevue or Belmont?
Amazon Fresh: Pike or Pine? Bellevue or Belmont?
Biang Biang Noodle: Pike or Pine? Bellevue or Belmont? -
As researchers studying how rumors spread on social media face numerous challenges in 2024, including limited access to platform data, we “have to learn how to get insights from more limited sets of data,” @uwcip director and co-founder @katestarbird told Nature. “And that offers the opportunity for creativity.”

A good friend of mine from high school, who lives on the block of Chicago's suddenly famous "rat hole" sidewalk, helped save the oddity and was interviewed by the Chicago Sun Times.
I spotted that thing 5 or 6 years ago, so it's weird to see it suddenly gain viral fame in 2024.
Also, trust the neighborhood experts: It's a squirrel, not a rat!
If you visit W. Roscoe Street to see the "rat hole," be sure to stop by Roscoe Books!
