Stop coercion in mental health! #WithdrawOviedo
The draft Additional Protocol to the #OviedoConvention violates human rights by allowing for the continued use of involuntary treatment and placement in psychiatry, which increases coercion, and is prohibited under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (#CRPD #UNCRPD).
Join the #EuropeanDisabilityForum's campaign opposing the draft Additional Protocol and urge the #CouncilOfEurope to withdraw it!

@pinguicverse I was there, too. It didn't really feel like being autistic was the norm (at least not the way it is at events like #Autscape) but it was certainly accepted and welcomed, much more so than at previous editions of the Autism-Europe congress. I credit a lot of that to AsIAm, an Irish autistic-led organisation, being this congress' co-organiser.

Took a peek at ex-Twitter because I sometimes like to watch a train wreck. It's a weakness of mine.
It's such a ghost town now. Followers are meaningless because everyone sensible has left. I posted one last Autscape announcement on the account there. 1779 followers and nil engagement.
What I don't understand is why quite a lot of people who should know better still hang on to it. They're only helping to legitimise #Musk and his meddling.

Thankfully, the old server has now come back online long enough for me to complete the migration.
As it turns out, you can migrate to an existing account that already has some follows/followers -- it will just add the ones from the old account.

CW: Unpopular take on puzzle piece
I'm one of few (?) autistics who doesn't feel offended by #PuzzlePiece logos as such (though some orgs using them are horrible).
NTs are puzzling to us as we are to them. The best #autism "intervention" is teaching NT parents how to communicate with their autistic kids. There is a puzzle to solve, it's just not the one they thought it was.
Also, the #neurodiversity infinity symbol is not a replacement. Neurodiversity is much wider than autism.

#Empathy is based on similarity. Autistics and NTs find it hard to empathise with one another because they experience life in fundamentally different ways, one not inherently worse than the other.
That's it. That's the whole #DoubleEmpathyProblem. No opaque academic jargon is needed.
Oh, and Damian Milton didn't invent the idea in 2012. Autistics figured this out in 1992!
Milton coined a catchy term for fame & profit. The people who did the real work are being forgotten.

Many new people think Mastodon is too complicated. I think that's in part because some of its jargon is obscure.
"Server" = site
"Instance" = site
"Federation" = network
"Fediverse" = network (fancier term)
"Defederate" = block (a site)
"Toot" = post
"Boost" = repostThe "Fediverse" is a bunch of websites, running various software, talking to each other using a common protocol – as with email.
Much "complexity" can be fixed by speaking plain English.

The neurodiversity movement largely insists that autistic characters should be played by autistic actors.
In my view, that's not representation, but tokenism.
The whole point of being an actor is playing a character different from yourself.
Equality is achieved when autistic actors play characters of every stripe and variety, just like non-autistic actors.
