"Winston Smith's" job in the novel "1984" was to remove words from the English language.

The People were told it was to "streamline" the language, but in fact, it was a means of CONTROL, b/c when people lack the words to express themselves, the people are easier to control. #DeptOfEducation

#Orwell's "1984" was mostly a cautionary tale about how insidious #Fascism can be... much like how his novel "Animal Farm" taught the same lesson about Communism.

This person (Eugen #Rochko), intentionally referenced by his ridiculously immature account name, has to be purged from the #Fediverse. His proverbial gloves against us are off and so are mine, now. Hence: "#Gargron" has to die — digitally. That's all I'm saying and I'm not advocating for anything more, except that Rochko's ties to '#Israel' should be thoroughly investigated (his extremely malign influence on #Mastodon and the Fediverse might amount to the crime of aiding and abetting #genocide which, by the way, is a capital offense in 'Israel' and as such, punishable by #death). Of course, that doesn't mean in any way whatsoever that I don't despise Rochko and his racist clique to the core. As a compassionate being, I most certainly do, for he's an #enemy and a #disgrace to #humanity. #EndGargronNow

  4. CW: CWs are great!

    @ketmorco @lydiaconwell

CWs are a polite way of giving others the ability to avoid seeing things that might impact them negatively.
Think that there are many people with emotional health issues or trauma that are driven out from a society or social media community that doesn't give a shit about their needs.

However, we also have to be aware that liberal bootlickers that demand "please CW politics" or "I don't want to see descriptions of experiences of racism because I rather prefer to continue with my privileged life" do not deserve so much consideration. (using hashtags such as #USelections can be a good thing though, because the dominance of some events can be really annoying and such hashtags allow people to mute these posts)

    Suggestion:
    - putting CWs on heavily traumatizing stuff (sexual violence, disturbing images etc.) is community care.
    - See CWs also as a tool to put informative titles/mini-resumes on your posts. Then you will like the function a lot :QueerCat:

  6. I was considering whether to include a final (kind of) space battle at the end of the novel I'm currently writing. It's a battle that features in my last novel but is more of a side event. And in this novel, the novel ends before the battle happens.

But then I realised that if I wrote further novels I'd start one of them with that space battle. I think that would make a good opener.

You know, maybe that will happen.

  7. The next big 'idea' in advertising will be a string of ads from different products from different companies all using the same actor or object or theme so people will go, 'Wow! It's like the same advert but for different companies!' and they'll go onto social media to talk about it.

    You heard it here first!

  8. There was someone following me who didn't like John Coltrane and it occurred to me that they hadn't listened to Ole which is absolutely superb and doesn't have a lot of John Coltrane performing in it.

I mean, he does perform in it, but it's so piano, bass and drums heavy and it brilliantly uses different musicians with different instruments to take turns to perform the Ole riff.

The part that blew me off my feet was when one of the double basses is played with a bow to play the riff. It's just brilliant and ridiculous at the same time.

I was going to ask that follower what they thought of Ole because it's genius and isn't all sax. But it turns out they soft blocked me, so I'll guess I'll never know.

And I guess they might never get to listen to Ole.

"The media have spent the last several days since the local elections studiously ignoring the fact that support for Genocide is a key factor in alienating the Labour Party’s traditional voting base – or when they do mention it, relating it only to Muslim voters. One thing we know for certain is that any probable new Prime Minister is not going to change Britain’s support for the genocidal zionist entity."

  14. Here's the #Telegraph attacking photographer Misan Harriman for questioning the lack of media coverage of the Golders Green attacker's first victim, a Muslim man.

I discovered this after reading that @Geri had her post deleted by mastodon.online when she mentioned the same thing.

And somehow that strikes me as a bit of a coordinated attack. Why are people getting upset with this being pointed out? 🤔

The only reason these ideas need to be suppressed is because they add context and draw attention to lobbying and media collusion in creating a more useful misleading narrative.

To make matters worse the Torygraph then gaslights its readers by claiming the lack of media coverage for the Muslim victim is a conspiracy theory! It's literally a case of the media doing something then saying 'No, we didn't!'

It seems we're entering a new age of suppression, with people being told to doubt their own mind.

  16. Politics from politicians' point of view is just game theory or something.

They all adopt similar policies because they know those policies are 'popular' -- that is, they will yield the highest vote share.

Then the #media amplify these policies to sell those ideas to even more people.

That's why other parties have adopted #Reform policies, with Reform coming out on top for being the genuine article.

Their brand of bullshit has become normalised by the media and their two tribute acts #Labour and the #Tories.

The #GreenParty hasn't done as well as I expected them to. I'm betting the Green vote share has increased, but with FPTP this hasn't delivered many more council seats.

We seriously need a left opposition. It looks like the Greens might not be the answer, but let's face it, #YourParty won't be making a dent in the next general election. Maybe if they had got their shit together sooner they might have, but not now. Not without some major political campaigning.

  27. CW: Midsommar Probably Spoilers

I read online that some people see Midsommar as #Feminism

I saw it as the #manipulation of people by a cult. All the characters were primed by Pelle. This is, I think, revealed to us without it actually being shown.

I also wondered if the 'suicide/murder' of Dani's sister wasn't set up by Pelle and his brother. The film however doesn't give any indication that the suicide was staged. Although the tape around the victim's mouth seemed suspicions to me ...

I was surprised that people might think Christian character as only toxic masculinity. He is also a victim

I read it as both of them as being toxic in their own way. While Christian is leaving Dani hanging and not breaking up with her, she also asks a lot from him and he is initially there for her.

Because looking at it from Christian's POV, although he wants to break up, the suicide thing makes that a really shitty move and he's kinda trapped.

Christian does some shitty things, Dani also has digs at him, jumps on minor things, expecting more from him

I didn't see it as which one is the villain. I saw it more of a difficult and mutually collapsing relationship which was exactly what the cult needed to exploit

  28. I watched #Midsommar and it's really very good.

There were no surprised for me. What happens it fairly standard in 'horror' and the story structure is basically The Wicker Man.

The movie is The Wicker Man but with different things happening.

I think what is most striking is how well the audience is directed. So many scenes you are carefully directed to what to look at and even what to hear. And for that, the viewer is very much being manipulated by the cult also.

What is different to other films with manipulation stories is that we see how it happens and the characters are already ripe for manipulation. It started before the movie starts. Other movies have events happening then someone at the end saying 'This was all to my plan!' Midsommar doesn't do that. (Except maybe the maypole was rigged).

It's a fairly slow paced movie yet very economical when something important happens. So much is revealed to the viewer without it being shown. We basically know what happens to every character.

And the difficulties in the characters' relationships are really nicely done. So much is conveyed with silence. You really get a sense of how the characters know each other.
