@roclaverton The Juana and Lucas and Anna Hibiscus series are favorites of mine. My kid loved the former from page 1; he took a little while to warm up to the latter (it is very earnest/wholesome, in a way that I think triggered his oppositional instincts), but now we’re about halfway through reading it together, and he’s been actively asking for more. 😁

@ferrous I never heard of #WeirdPrideDay, and I love that it’s a thing! Possibly of interest, #MGLit fantasy genre, Kaela Rivera’s Cece Rios books — the main character has a “water soul” in a world that prizes fire, and struggles with her family’s/community’s perception of her differences as a “curse.” Also great in #ChapterBooks (on the cusp of #EarlyReaders/MG), Sara Pennypacker’s Clementine is a fabulously “weird” heroine. And in #GraphicNovels, definitely Cece Bell’s El Deafo.

That said, I can’t say I’ll never order from them again, because I really, really like two of the three varieties I picked up for myself (genmaicha and Irish breakfast). But I might at least try exploring similar offerings from other vendors before I come crawling back to David’s... #Tea #TeaDrinkers (2/2)

No good feelings about my David’s Tea customer service experience. Between the difficulty getting to talk to someone (just upwards of 20 minutes’ wait for a rep via online chat, still no callback from phone support), and the amount of pushback they gave me before accepting the delivery delay as reason to authorize a return on a seasonal item (you really want me to appeal this to my credit card company?), I don’t get the sense they’re too invested in customer happiness. #Tea #TeaDrinkers (1/2)

@arpcomics #FirstConcert, Jimmy Buffett, with my parents. I think I was thirteen? Good times were had.
#BestConcert...does not compute. I can’t stack experiences against each other like that. One amazing one that comes to mind was maybe ten years ago. A couple of German guys, Georg Schroeter and Marc Breitfelder — keyboardist/singer and harmonica player — at a tiny blues club in San Francisco. Crazy gorgeous, crazy intense. Haunts me.

Verdict: The David’s turmeric chai is a little too skewed toward the ginger for me — more “bite” than I’d prefer, and not as much cardamom and clove flavor as I was hoping for. I’m new to “golden” chais, so I don’t know if this is a typical flavor profile, or if I should keep looking for a blend that suits me better.
(There is also the “make my own” route...but I know me; if it’s not easy, I won’t bother half as often as I might like!)

Remember me wondering if I was too harsh on an online merchant who hadn’t shipped my order ten days after I placed it? That was a more innocent time...it finally arrived on Friday, four WEEKS after I ordered! Too late for Hanukkah, too late even for the 12th day of Christmas!
The merchant? David’s Tea. So while the holiday item I bought is going back (with extreme prejudice!), I can console myself with a few bags of loose leaf I grabbed on the side. First up: Turmeric chai! #TeaDrinkers #Tea

Took all the decorations off the Christmas tree today, but it’s not too late for one last Christmas movie: the magnificent #JingleJangle. Gorgeous visuals, amazing cast (oddly enough, I think this was the first role in which I ever saw Keegan-Michael Key), charming story...I even like the musical numbers! Couldn’t wrap the season without sneaking this one in.

Is there a community here of #ChildrensLibrarians, booksellers, teachers, and/or parents sharing #KidLit / #ChildrensBooks recommendations and reviews? I’ve found some great hashtags populated by content creators posting about their own work, but I’d love to hear perspectives from people who work directly with kids about the books you’re seeing them connect with! Especially interested in #OwnVoices, #MiddleGrades, #GraphicNovels, #ReadAloud... Are my people out there?
