  1. @buttondown Hey Buttondown, I've gotten some complaints about insecure link warnings from some of our newsletter subscribers. It's probably zealous firewalls, but can you confirm that the "buttondown-0006" domain is your link tracker? Is there a list of these documented somewhere?
    Thanks!

  2. Super bummed that I couldn't make work this year. I'll miss hanging out with you fine folks and I hope you all have a great time!
    Stay safe everyone!

  3. Did someone leave a Dell power brick at the table in room 318 at the sprints? Can I get it back to you somehow?

  4. I'm happy to finally share the recording of my PyOhio talk "Snakes and Ladders: A Gentle Introduction to Generators and Iterators."

It was my first session talk and the PyOhio organizers and volunteers were supportive and helpful throughout the proposal and preparation. Thanks again to everyone who helped make 2024 a great comeback for the conference!
Be sure to check out the other great talks on the PyOhio channel as well!

  9. I'm not typically one to do a hard sell, but organizers (VOLUNTEER organizers, mind you) did an AMAZING job organizing the first in-person con (which is FREE to attend) after lockdown, and they only need to sell a few more hoodies to get the minimum batch and raise some money for PyOhio2025. Please be an awesome person, support these lovely people, and buy a hoodie to get them to over 15 sales so they can run the batch!

  10. It was a bit too busy (and fun) today at to keep up with posting, but:
    - I gave my first session talk
    - Nothing caught on fire and no one was injured
    - I met several more lovely people
    - I learned several interesting new things.

I'm going to go ahead and put the day in the "win" column.

  11. Hullo Cleveland! It's been a while.

  12. Let's be honest, there was never a reality where I was going to leave the used bookstore without this once I discovered it...

  13. The problem with summer heat and humidity in the SE US (especially with broken A/C) is there is a discrete upper bound on how un-clothed you can become.

  14. I'm happy to share that a talk I proposed for @pyohio has been accepted! This will be my first full-length conference talk, so I'm excited and nervous! We'll be having some fun while discussing Iterators and Generators in Python.

There are a lot of other excellent sounding talks scheduled, and attendance is free, so I hope to see many of you there! I attended in 2018 and 2019 and it was great! You can register here: pyohio.org/

  15. To all the old friends and the new I've met this year - safe travels wherever you head next! Thanks for making another great experience. And to those of you behind the scenes - thanks for your hard work and dedication so that we can have a community event like this one.
Looking forward to seeing you all next year, if not sooner! Keep in touch!

  16. Weird morning so far.
    * Shot wide awake at 5:22 am for no discernable reason (thanks body/brain)
    * Pointlessly tried to go back to sleep.
    * Gave up and got up to clear away the work inbox
    * Got a message from a former student of mine I haven't heard from in several years

I think this will need to be remedied with some and sprints today.

  17. I've taught Python classes to hundreds of students at this point, and I still find it fascinating that every group of students teaches me something new or provides me some new perspective.

  18. Exciting to see that @PyConUS has posted the videos from , which includes my very first lightning talk at ! Nothing fancy but I hope it's a good start to pushing myself toward my goal to give more talks and presentations at conferences. You have to start somewhere!
Here's my talk, which starts around 34:47, but I recommend browsing the other talks as well - there were some fantastic speakers there this year.

  22. On beta amyloid in Alzheimer’s I’m reminded of @[email protected] comments to #HESA years ago: doing science differently with open data sharing and collaboration would have allowed testing of this hypothesis in the open to know if it was true years ago.
