  1. @joelanman Yep. That's one of the reasons why, after reviewing #Figma , we rejected it, and advised everyone to do the same. We want an #accessibleweb . Figma should be an #a11y . They are perfectly positioned to lead the way. And they choose differently.

  2. @joelanman #TimSpector ranting on about it and then launching his own #Zoe range of #UPFs is another fab example

  3. @joelanman My favourite Youtube/Google #deceptivepattern: only way to log into a work Google account (even .gov.uk!) is redirecting via acount.youtube.com (so admins can't block YT), and by default that sends a notification to my personal iPad Youtube App (that has 0 work accounts set up, and where I don't log into YT).

  8. @joelanman Finally started #HollowKnight for the first time this week. Having a great time with it. Also been replaying #FinalFantasyVIIRemake, and hopping into #CrisisCoreReunion next.

  9. What's so important about GOV.UK Forms is how thoughtfully they're going about it. So for example the editor UI is simple and accessible. And it's opinionated - it helps users who don't have a lot of experience with tech or design produce good quality forms.

  10. We have a bad fly-tipping problem in #Newham. Just tried the Bulky Waste service. I have to select each item separately from a massive dropdown. Select 'Wicker basket' (!) and it says 'Make sure it is clean'. What? No it's broken and dirty, hence me trying to get rid of it. Other stuff I can't find in the list at all.

  11. An **eggcorn** is the alteration of a phrase through mishearing, creating a new phrase having a different meaning from the original but which still makes sense

    examples:

"doggy dog world" for "dog eat dog world"
    "pass mustard" for "pass muster"
"to the manor born" for "to the manner born"
"wet your appetite" for "whet your appetite"

  12. One thing per page is one of the most powerful design patterns we have. It makes it so much easier for people to understand a page, to resolve any errors and only see the pages and questions that are relevant to them. If research says it's better to combine some questions, do that, but it's a great start point.

  13. Small but important update to the GOV.UK Design System guidance:

    > Accept month names written out in full or abbreviated form (for example, ‘january’ or ‘jan’) as some users may enter months in this way.

This came from quant data on Apply for teacher training service, showing that many people did this.

It also follows our error validation guidance: "accept information in different formats, as long as it’s not ambiguous"

    Good work @frankieroberto !
