  2. Trying out ABCarus for local editing of abc music . I'm running the AppImage on and so far for the simple edits I've done its working well! I've been using online WYSIWYG abc editing tools for years but always wanted something local. This allows you to type out abc notation and sheet music is rendered in real time in split screen, also provides a player so you can hear the music.

  4. I've used a paid android app for a long time as my default - an emulated TI-85. It currently has an issue with the latest android security update (they are working on it) but I need a calculator... I found "Graph 89" on F-droid, an open source for a bunch of TI calcs (but not the TI-85 so I'm checking out the TI-89 since I had a ROM for that and wow its different. has been around for a long time but this is a fork for modern android

  5. I've been working on a personal project lately which involves writing a lot of sheet music and I just want to mention Paul Rosen's amazing project. If you play you probably know about abc notation already which allows you to dynamically create images of sheet music written in abc to embed. Talented folks have written online WYSIWYG abc editors using it and these have been very helpful as well!

  9. It looks like Dell machines are not vulnerable to because their AMI Bios doesn't open that attack surface by allowing an enduser to modify a boot logo like Lenovo and Acer do. They still have an image parser which is vulnerable so firmware will need updated eventually.

  15. I watched another excellent episode of the (no link, I'll let you google it) this time with Armin Shimerman who played Quark on DS9. He was very entertaining and while discussing his early career in theater he recommended all aspiring actors to watch English director John Barton's Shakespeare Masterclass. It was excellent and has me looking forward to reading some Shakespeare again soon!

  16. I've spent a fair amount of time playing over the years and often find I like to write down a new piece or modify one I'm learning. For doing this on the computer I've used lots of programs over the years but I keep coming back to simple plain text and the editor I use the most is available free online. Paul Rosen's - github.com/paulrosen/abcjs can be used under the MIT license. A UK based IT consulting firm has a great example here: abc.rectanglered.com/
