Immich is a freaking treasure! After rebuilding my server I had to fight with Nextcloud, even had to end up recreating a user account and restore things from backup. Immich I just spun the docker up, pointed it at the drive I had Immich on, and it came back like it had never been gone! Which is great because I wasn’t looking forward to 20,000 photos and videos backing up again.

Latest MXLinux update fubar’d my install. Spent most of today trying to get it back to working, but looks like I might have to nuke it from orbit and reinstall. Not overly excited about having to setup Nextcloud and Immich all over again.
Fortunately all data is backed up so nothing is going to be lost - other than a lot of time and sanity.

Well, I got Immich up and running. Had one brief hiccup, but the classic turn it off and turn it back on again did the trick.
My phone transferring all the photos over made it get smoking hot. Used some ice packs to keep it cool and after most of a day all my photos are backed up to Immich!

Added a kiwix server to my local server setup. It took… no time at all really. Probably one of the easiest things I’ve done in forever and it just worked.
Next up is either going to be Kavita or Immich - depends how I’m feeling after I take care of things that need to get done today.

For those wondering, I went with LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) for my old iMac. Other than some issues getting audio working (got it working this morning), everything went without a hitch. Still not sure what distro I’m going to toss on the old laptop yet.. might end up going through a few.

So, I tried querying our future LLM overlords, but they were unsurprisingly useless. So I turn it over to fediverse #nerdom There’s a book I vaguely remember reading in the 90’s. Sci-fi fans were the heroes, helping astronauts who had been on a space station (maybe) but were now being hunted on earth by a government that was very anti science. So the nerds were like the revolutionary underground. It was an obscure novel. I can’t recall the title or author. #scifi #fedihelp #literature

I’m a father of two boys. A former IT geek who ended up working in breweries, then becoming an actual brewer at a small pub. It eventually closed, and I transitioned to full time #stayathomedad . Single digit weather (in Fahrenheit, it’s close to -14C) out there today. What would I like to do? Curl up under my blanket, watch some Premiere League football, and read a good book with a cat in my lap.
What am I going to be doing? Taking my 11 year old to his hockey game so I can stand around an ice rink all morning. Oh, yeah, then tonight I have a hockey game.

Another day, another reason to hate those Flock cameras I see more and more of around here. You may say you don’t care about them because you have nothing to hide… but what happens when the government decides something you routinely do is now cause for suspicion or is made illegal, etc?

The downside of having your own back yard ice… cleaning it off after it snows. It’s only a 40x20 (in feet, a little over 12 meters by just under 7 meters) rink, but it’s a bit of workout. Fortunately it was only a couple inches (about 5cm) of powdery snow.
