I usually don't post about politics in this account, but ...
These days mark the first anniversary of the horrific massacres (more like a genocidal campaign) committed against the #Alawites communities in #Syria by barbaric forces aligned with the de facto Syrian "government" (formerly the members of #ISIS, #HTS, and #AlQaeda) that is backed by #Turkey, #Qatar, #SaudiArabia, and western countries, primarily the #US. All these countries are complicit in these crimes.

Crimes against members of these communities and other minorities sadly continue to this day, which include systemic killings, rape, abductions, and forced marriages.

The people of #Syria were thrown under the bus, and the whole country is being sold to the #Khayyat family (Syrian billionaires with strong ties to the princes of #Qatar). All it took is to satisfy the ego of #Trump. It's an egregious case of conflict of interest.

No important reason. I'm sure I was using sprite$() in an earlier version of the code, but I think the vpoke'ing yielded simpler code.
Mind you, for some reason, if I initialized the sprites after the turbo on call, x-basic was complaining about the dim variables.
Were you asking because you thought I could've initialized the sprites after the turbo on call? I'm still not familiar with all the limitations of #xbasic.
I didn't know the bit about #TurboR! I used to program on an #MSX 1 and now I have a physical #MSX 2.

Currently, it only works in Chrome because it uses #WebGPU. The controls are rather awkwardly unconventional and unintuitive because I am too lazy to implement proper ones. Click on the joystick icon to learn about them. I think that a tablet, preferably with a stylus, would be the friendliest way to use it. It's still so much a work in progress though. More to come.

Anyone been to La Virée Classique in #Montreal these days? Today I attended a recital by #bomsorikim (Bomsori Kim). My lower jaw almost touched the floor as I listened in awe to her renditions of #violin works by #debussy #Kreisler and #wieniawski ... I think this is the second time I see her perform at this festival. We're lucky Montreal seems to be like a favorite touring destination for her!

Still toying with #webgpu ... Not sure what I was trying to accomplish with this example, or what I was expecting exactly.
I suppose it is a hybrid of #raycasting / #raymarching (not with a signed distance field, but with scalar field gradients) and #marchingcubes (minus the polygonization). Maybe there is a proper name for it in the graphics circles?
I am using a #compute #shader to create a 3D texture with scalar field values and gradients, and sampling it in the fragment shader (the thing that shoots it with rays 🙂 )
Assuming the compression did not kill it, I kinda liked the quality more than using the conventional marching cubes/tetrahedra. Still, it might be a waste of GPU power on something simple. Also there are some undesirable artefacts that I could not get rid of.

@jimkreft Geesh. I guess I'm old. When I was a kid, we used beeswax on our skis. And a company back home is attemtping to make it for skiing.
"Back before petroleum based waxes were available skiers utilized natural ingredients to wax the bottom of their skis. We will not go into the specifics of glide and grip but we will let you know that we have been experimenting with our friends at Pioneers Board Shop in North Hampton on a beeswax based snowboard/ski wax that is effective and 100% natural and biodegradable. Our 5th formula seems to have made a big improvement on glide and I tested it in some perfect conditions at Sunday River at the end of February. Snow conditions and weather play a big role in the type of wax one can use but so far our test batches have performed well over the synthetic waxes that are found on the market."

"On Monday, March 25, the Maine legislature’s Committee on Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) will discuss a new “Zombie Bill” version of #LD1471, a bill that was tabled last year. This bill takes a dangerous U-turn on #EnvironmentalProtections protections for metallic #mining in #Maine. This new version of LD1471 replaces language about strengthening environmental and human health mining protections with language that instead weakens Maine’s mining law and creates a loophole that specifically exempts #OpenPit #LithiumMining from environmental protections in the law.
"Writing a “Zombie Bill” is sneaky, undemocratic politics. The Maine Board of Environmental Protection (BEP) missed the deadline for this legislative session to have the legislature review these new rules regarding open-pit lithium mining. Instead of going through a transparent, democratic process of review in the next legislative session, the #JanetMills administration, pushed by the mining industry and in cooperation with the ENR committee, is bringing this zombie bill forward in an attempt to rush it through without a public hearing.
"We deserve the right to a public hearing and to submit testimony on this legislation, but this undemocratic process takes away our right to do so. There is no online portal available to submit testimony, so please submit comment by email or in person."
