  10. Behold, a Purple Death pepper (800,000-1,500,000 SHU). This is the first year we've grown this variety and last night I tried it for the first time.

    I ate a piece the size of a nickel. Every part of my mouth it touched went numb for about 20 seconds. This was followed by a slowly then quickly building heat that felt stabby, almost like a sting. After 15 minutes the heat was gone.

    Nice pepper!

  17. It's April Fools' Day... peppers! If you're like me, you may have little patience for pranks these days. These peppers developed by the New Mexico Chili Institute are no joke though. The ornamental NuMex April Fools' Day produce profusions of beautiful purple and red pods. We'll have them for sale at the Tuscaloosa River Market this Saturday!
