Great work capturing these images Eugene.
Propz!
Can you assure us, though, that what you saw and photograpged is not a guy in a costume -- like Bigfoot -- or 3 hamsters in a beaver skin coat?

... surface ca. 2 hrs. after watering --the pots are too high.
Don't know how else to calibrate water 💦, as the plants are so high now and there is rarely enough rain.
As Lionel @lionelb had pointed out, and as I've found quite some leaves with bite damages, I've ordered #nematodes against the weevil, which arrive this week.

Hopefully, they are the root cause: there are quite some more yellow(ish) leaves now!

I also use the 3 bin method, but only because I had enough scrap pressure treated lumber to build 3 bins. Slightly different process, but multiple bins make it easy to turn the pile. Ours is still frozen here, and I usually turn it in May. -
@eugeneparnell two links to add to water to your mill:

@eugeneparnell I'm actually about halfway across the country in the South! Didn't realize you all had a #Zone8b all the way over there. Thanks for the suggestions!

A March bloomer and native to Japan, Stachyurus praecox 'Rubriflora', is a unique shade-garden plant, draped in a curtain of tassels before the foliage emerges. It reminds me of the plant that @eugeneparnell posted, another March bloomer, but his is a native to the Pacific North West and an evergreen: Garrya elliptica, or silk tassel tree. Take a look.

I heat water over fire inside the classroom… a place that has become a bathroom, shelter, and dining space all at once 💔
What was once simple and normal now takes patience and strength. Even the smallest things in life have completely changed.

Ugh. Little b*stards. I started using chicken wire on my pots because they kept digging in them. -
I'm pretty sure these are European orb weavers which I have heard are an invasive species here in the #PNW. They aren't poisonous or aggressive, just very numerous and annoying. They mostly seem to catch European crane flies which are also an invasive pest here so maybe it balances out, I dunno. If anyone knows any more please weigh in. #PNW #gardening #spider #entomology

Guess what? It's almost June, which means in a couple months it will be SPIDER SEASON. And all these little guys will be casting meter-wide webs across the garden paths. We'll need a carry a stick every morning to clear them away so we can walk. IYKYK Welcome to the #PNW !

Another couple photos of my wisteria. White ones are less common than purple but I prefer the white blooms. Wisteria is a beast of a plant. It can grow 50 feet up into a tree and I need to trim mine about every two weeks throughout the summer to keep it from doing just that. I don't know that I would plant one myself; this one came with the house and I maintain it out of a sense of, I dunno, tradition.

My wisteria is blooming. It came with the house and it's decades old. I actually made the sculpture and designed the whole planter vignette and the plantings to take advantage of it. It looks fantastic for about 10 days out of the year. We've got just a few more days of bloom and then it's back to the work of pruning the wisteria for next year.

If you join the Northwest Perennial Alliance you get a super secret tour book to private gardens whose owners open them up on certain days for members. Last Sunday I got to see this magnificent garden in Redmond. There's an artesian spring on the five acre property that they've manipulated into a series of ponds with dramatic plantings around them.

Here's a couple more blurry photos. It was about the size of a loaf of banana bread, too big for a rat, nearly the size of a football. The blunt head and lack of a tail are pretty definitive. You can't see in the photos but its tiny eyes gave it an expression like I'd woken it up from a nap. #bigfoot #PNW #Washington #cryptid #WildLife #wildlifephotography
